this is not your grandma’s monogram…

July 18th | older posts

it’s a fun, fresh take on a classic look. i just got these BIG stamps and they are so cool. the oval shap is also new. for a monogram, the last name is the largest letter in the middle, with the first initial on the left and the middle initial on the right. my real name is elisabeth nancy leonard, so… e L n. i hammered the oval a bit ot give it a more rustic look.

i am also having fun layering the handstamped jewelry with beaded necklaces. i am feeling creative, so stay tuned for more new designs!

haircuts and converse

July 17th | older posts

I gave David a haircut last night and man was he MAD! He was kicking and screaming and twisting and turning. He has never like haircuts, but since his last hospital stay he has gotten much more fiesty about being held down.

I hate to see him upset, but Steve and I feel strongly about making sure he is always well groomed and dressed nicely. This might sound simple, but the kid’s got THICK hair that grows REALLY fast. Plus he’s the size of an 18 month old. Finding clothes for him is a part time job. I don’t want anything with little doggies or blue bears–I want BIG BOY clothes, but in a tiny size. The Gap has been good to me. We also have a really sweet friend who has professionally altered many pairs of pants for David. Over the weekend I found a pair of navy blue Converse high tops in David’s size. I thought I had died and gone to heaven! They are so, so cute! So I dropped him off at school today with a new haircut and blue converse. Man I love that kid!!

road trip to sonoma

July 16th | older posts

david and matty spent a lot of time playing at a little park across the street from the church where steve performed the wedding. david must have walked at least a couple miles this weekend–he just kept going and going!

i think this was the only moment matty sat still all weekend. he had so much fun running, playing and exploring.

the wedding cake was made up of lots of cupcakes–so cute and sooo yummy. i cheated a little and shared one with david.

the new mr. and mrs. SUCH a sweet couple.

we stopped at a huge target near san francisco for a break, and the gilroy outlets for another break. a little retail therapy sure makes traveling fun :)

the boys were so easy-going and fun. i loved focusing on them and playing all day. matty had a major melt-down today from being exhasted. both boys are asleep and i’m going to catch a little nap, too!

I found these handmade mexican charms recently and I fell in love! They are so simple and imperfect and sweet. They are $32 each, email me if you’d like to buy one.

a cross and a home with a freshwater pearl–representing faith and family

a hand and a chunky piece of new jade. of course it has a freshwater pearl (can you tell I like freshwater pearls??) it represents generosity–we’ve been given so much and we have so much to give!

this one has a bird and a heart–finding beauty in the little things

We had a great weekend driving up to sonoma and back. steve and i had a lot of time to talk and process about life. the boys were troopers. during the rehearsal and wedding we played at the park and took walks. it was so refreshing to slow down and play with them. david walked and walked (which means i walked and walked.) i’ll post some pics tomorrow.

mi vida loca

between friends passing through town, making jewelry and attempting to keep the house halfway decent i am having a hard time finding balance. oh yeah, and being a mom to two active boys!! we’ve been running late to pretty much everything lately and we’re all a little sleep deprived. (could it be those all-nighters i’ve pulling trying to catch up?!) i think they call this burning the candle at both end…but it’s all so much fun! how do you find balance with everything life demands?!

ps–looks like matty has a new girlfriend!

more pics from cambria

Matty playing in the sand outside a cute antique store. Love this idea of filling up a wheelbarrow with sand, shells, funnels, etc.

Sliding with daddy. Steve is awesome–he is totally willing to climb and play. I prefer to cheer from the bench :)

David scooting through the tube by himself.

I LOVE this pic of the boys. It is so hard to get a good photo of the two of them. It really captured the moment!

Me and Steve being posers on a bench outside Cambria Pines Lodge.

They seem so small against the vast ocean.

welcome to blogland…

July 9th | older posts

I am thrilled to tell you about these two new blogs…

My twin sister and best friend, Chrissie, just started blogging again! She is married to an awesome guy, they are looking into foster care, and she does some very artistic things with paper and linocuts! She lives in Mission Viejo and I am San Luis Obispo, so even though we get together about once a month, I am so glad I can keep tabs on her daily life this way.

And Sarah, one of my oldest, dearest friends. We were college roommates and I could share some funny stories about that–tetris competitions, roomie christmas parties, and lots of other silly (okay dorkie) things. we had a blast. she is an awesome mama and has quite a way with words. love these girls!!

a bunch of star bellied sneetches

July 8th | older posts

we threw a sneetches party to celebrate david’s 5th birthday. we had a ‘frankfurter roast’ at a park nearby. i made sneetches tee shirts for all the kiddos. it was easy and a ton of fun!

chrissie did some sidewalk chalk to welcome the guests :)

i stole a birthday snuggle with the guest of honor

david sported his star belly and played with a pinwheel from nana

steve read the story to all the kids with lots of enthusiasm!

we all chowed down on cupcakes-yum!!

my boys got some ‘slide’ time in.

All in all it was a great afternoon. The story of the Sneetches is meaningful to us.

THE SNEETCHES
by Dr. Seuss
Now the Star-bellied Sneetches had bellies with stars.
The Plain-bellied Sneetches had none upon thars.
The stars weren’t so big; they were really quite small.
You would think such a thing wouldn’t matter at all.
But because they had stars, all the Star-bellied Sneetches
would brag, “We’re the best kind of Sneetch on the beaches.”
With their snoots in the air, they would sniff and they’d snort, ”
We’ll have nothing to do with the plain-bellied sort.”
And whenever they met some, when they were out walking,
they’d hike right on past them without even talking. When the Star-bellied children went out to play ball,
could the Plain-bellies join in their game? Not at all!
You could only play ball if your bellies had stars,
and the Plain-bellied children had none upon thars.
When the Star-bellied Sneetches had frankfurter roasts,
or picnics or parties or marshmallow toasts,
they never invited the Plain-bellied Sneetches.
Left them out cold in the dark of the beaches.
Kept them away; never let them come near,
and that’s how they treated them year after year.
Then one day, it seems, while the Plain-bellied Sneetches
were moping, just moping alone on the beaches,
sitting there, wishing their bellies had stars,
up zipped a stranger in the strangest of cars.”My friends, ” he announced in a voice clear and keen,
”My name is Sylvester McMonkey McBean.
I’ve heard of your troubles; I’ve heard you’re unhappy.
But I can fix that; I’m the fix-it-up chappie.
I’ve come here to help you; I have what you need.
My prices are low, and I work with great speed,
and my work is one hundred per cent guaranteed.”
Then quickly, Sylvester McMonkey McBean
put together a very peculiar machine.
Then he said, “You want stars like a Star-bellied Sneetch?
My friends, you can have them . . . . for three dollars each.
Just hand me your money and climb on aboard.”They clambered inside and the big machine roared.
It bonked. It clonked. It jerked. It berked.
It bopped them around, but the thing really worked.
When the Plain-bellied Sneetches popped out, they had stars!
They actually did, they had stars upon thars!
Then they yelled at the ones who had stars from the start,
”We’re exactly like you; you can’t tell us apart.
We’re all just the same now, you snooty old smarties.
Now we can come to your frankfurter parties!”"Good grief!” groaned the one who had stars from the first.
”We’re still the best Sneetches, and they are the worst.
But how in the world will we know,” they all frowned,
”if which kind is what or the other way ’round?”
Then up stepped McBean with a very sly wink, and he said,
”Things are not quite as bad as you think.
You don’t know who’s who, that is perfectly true.
But come with me, friends, do you know what I’ll do?
I’ll make you again the best Sneetches on beaches,
and all it will cost you is ten dollars eaches.Belly stars are no longer in style, ” said McBean.
”What you need is a trip through my stars-off machine.
This wondrous contraption will take off your stars,
so you won’t look like Sneetches who have them on thars.”
That handy machine, working very precisely,
removed all the stars from their bellies quite nicely.
Then, with snoots in the air, they paraded about.
They opened their beaks and proceeded to shout,
”We now know who’s who, and there isn’t a doubt,
the best kind of Sneetches are Sneetches without.”Then, of course those with stars all got frightfully mad.
To be wearing a star now was frightfully bad.
Then, of course old Sylvester McMonkey McBean
invited them into his stars-off machine.
Then, of course from then on, you can probably guess,
things really got into a horrible mess.
All the rest of the day on those wild screaming beaches,
the Fix-it-up-Chappie was fixing up Sneetches.
Off again, on again, in again, out again,
through the machine and back round about again,
still paying money, still running through,
changing their stars every minute or two,
until neither the Plain- nor the Star-bellies knew
whether this one was that one or that one was this one
or which one was what one or what one was who!
Then, when every last cent of their money was spent,
the Fix-It-Up-Chappie packed up and he went.
And he laughed as he drove in his car up the beach,
”They never will learn; no, you can’t teach a Sneetch!”
But McBean was quite wrong, I’m quite happy to say,
the Sneetches got quite a bit smarter that day.
That day, they decided that Sneetches are Sneetches,
and no kind of Sneetch is the BEST on the beaches.
That day, all the Sneetches forgot about stars,
and whether they had one or not upon thars.
