• Hi, I'm Lisa-mommy to my boys, David, 8 and Matty, 6 and wife to Steve. In between school and work we spend our time playing outdoors on the central coast of CA, eating chocolate chip pancakes, tapping tunes on the piano (David) and choreographing elaborate lightsaber duels (Matty). I create handmade jewelry and love taking pictures. Stick around and get to know us!

big news: we’ve bunked the beds!

bunkbeds1

we bought the boys bunk beds a couple years ago but kept them separate.  we used the top bunk with its railing all the way around to keep david safe after we moved him out of a crib.  but now he’s ready for the next step.  so exciting!

bunkbeds2

karen sapp hand-painted these darling signs for the boys.  i hung them with ribbon threaded through the wood slates, so i wouldn’t have to nail into the beds.

bunkbeds3bunkbeds4

oh, the view from the top!  can i just tell you how excited matthias is to have a top bunk??

bunkbeds5

here’s the white mesh railing we put on to keep david from climbing/falling out.  some friends gave us this one and we love to use it in hotels and on trips.  i can’t find another one any where.  any ideas??

bunkbeds6

and on the other side of the room we have a leather chair we got from some friends who were moving.  i found the dresser (it has two rows of drawers) at a garage sale for $20 and painted it red.  that was a happy day! the rug is from the ikea–it had been used in a display and was half off.  the baskets under the bed are from target.

it’s a simple room, but it’s clean (at least for the moment) and the boys love it.

We had a railing like that for our kids. We ordered it online through Target for around $20.00.
    Great room!

When I was little my sister and I had bunk beds. I have some awesome memories from those things…there’s just something about kids and bunk beds (specially if you sleep on the top like I did). Yours are beautiful, I just love the signs. I’m sure the boys are going to have some great time with them!

  3. Kristina on October 20th, 2009 10:10 am

It’s a beautiful room and I’m sure your little guys love it!!

We bought a railing like that at either walmart or target a few years ago. I think it might have been Walmart. The bedroom looks so great and I love the painted signs.

  6. Becky on October 20th, 2009 10:22 am

Love the room! Our boys are 4 and 3 and they have their beds bunked and love it too! We have one of those white railings and we found it at Walmart. It wasn’t very expensive at all. Love the signs too!

  7. Joanie on October 20th, 2009 10:26 am

One step ahead might have a mesh railing. Great looking room. So classic and fun. I love Matty’s drawing of your family from your other post! He’s an artist like his mom.

  8. Robin on October 20th, 2009 10:28 am

Walmart has some extra long railings like that. Also, Children’s Orchard has some from time to time. Do you have one of those near you?

  9. Corinne on October 20th, 2009 10:36 am

What a great room - and a great bunk bed!! And those signs are just perfect.

  11. Sallie on October 20th, 2009 10:54 am

I hope the caped crusader doesn’t get any ideas about jumping from the top bunk! We picked up a couple of those bed rails at a yard sale!

  12. Krissy on October 20th, 2009 11:25 am

Hi Lisa - I just rec’d the necklace I ordered and I love it! (it’s a bday present for my mom) I popped over to your blog and saw your question about the rails. Babies R Us has them… http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2309634

We are getting ready to transition our little boy to a bed so I had been looking into them!

Im going to post the target website and it has several different varieties for bed rails. I loved them when my kids were small. We would take ours traveling too! I hope this helps.

Hey Lisa - love to hear of sweet deals like yours! I just saw one of those mesh railings today at the thrift store for $5! If you lived closer, I’d buy it for you and bring it on over. :-)

I second all of the advice to check out Target/Wal*Mart/Babies R Us for the bedrail- we have one for Mister’s bed.

I have a bed rail just like that for my daughter. The mesh is white, but the other white part is blue. I found it brand new at a consignment store for about $5, but the brand is Safety First.

Hi Lisa - I found my way here via Beth in Madison. I’ve put you in my favorites and will be back often. David and Matty are lucky to have those great bunk beds. My grandson had those same green frog boots when he was younger. Leather furniture is perfect for little boys.

  29. Wendy @ The Shabby Nest on October 21st, 2009 7:39 am

I love all of your little touches! What a great leather chair…weathered just right! A perfect boys’ room!

  30. Wendy Sanchez on October 21st, 2009 11:39 am

Ah Man Lisa, I wished we lived closer I have two rails (barely used) that I would just give you. Sorry, I’m all the way in sacramento. :( Wendy

  31. Rachelle on October 23rd, 2009 8:06 pm
