• Hi, I'm Lisa-mommy to my boys, David, 7 and Matty, 6 and wife to Steve. In between school and work we spend our time playing outdoors on the central coast of CA, eating chocolate chip pancakes, tapping tunes on the piano (David) and choreographing elaborate lightsaber duels (Matty). I create handmade jewelry and love taking pictures. Stick around and get to know us!

easy apple crisp.

*

you’ve heard the phrase, ‘easy as pie’? well, this is even easier than pie!

*

How to…

step 1. peel, core, slice apples.  i used 10 gala apples. well we munched while we worked, so, 9 1/2 apples.

step 2. place apples in bottom of greased baking dish (this is where my little helpers hop in).

step 3. sprinkle white cake mix (straight from the box) and cinnamon until top is covered. used about 3/4 of the box.

step 4. place butter slices here and there.  i used 1 1/2 cubes of butter.

step 5. bake at 350 for about 40 minutes–or until apples are soft and crumb topping is crumbly–not very scientific, but it’s hard to mess up!

step 6. serve with ice cream and hot caramel–or alone.  oh yum!

*

you can also use canned peaches, frozen berries–any fruit. and it makes the whole house smell like fall!  what’s cookin’ in your kitchen?

MMMMMmmmm…. I have a easy apple crisp recipe that uses the canned apple pie filling… but I had never thought of using the cake mix! That is a great idea! Thanks… Can you guess what is for dessert tonight?

Yum, I love apple crisp, especially with custard on top. One day we are going to get one of those apple peelers, then it won’t be such a chore.

I’ve done this before too, but with canned peaches or a bag of frozen raspberries - it is wonderful as well - and don’t forget the vanilla bean icecream!!!

This may be a goofy question but how much cinnamon do I use? Is it just kinda an eyeball it thing?

  20. lisa on October 22nd, 2009 4:10 pm

hi christi! yeah, i just eyeball it. i used quite a bit–but it really flavors the apples. i sprinkled it over the entire top. may 1/4″ total? xo

I L.O.V.E. apple crisp! I actually bought some Honey Crisp and Granny Smith apples today just to make a crisp! Costco had huge bags of cranberries, and thought, lets throw some in there too.
Y.U.M. Even my picky 3 year old gobbled it up!

  24. Debbie on October 22nd, 2009 9:17 pm

Sooo much easier than the one I made a few days ago!
Took a similar pumpkin dessert to work, and it was a BIG hit.
