holiday dressing

dress0*

i recently brought home this dress from melanie renee.  i love this dress.  i mean, i seriously fell in love with it.  i met melanie at a local show and was so impressed with her craft.  at $148 it’s just a bit more than i would usually pay, but, i’m pretty sure i can justify the cost (hehe).  it’s a versatile dress so i put together two outfits.  i’ll be wearing this beauty to more than one holiday gathering.

* * *

the first way…

this is exactly how i thought of the dress when i first saw it.  the perfect brown leather boots and layered with a sweater.  the scarf and silk flower dress it up a bit more.

*

dress2*

this outfit is so comfortable.  it really feels like ‘me’.  love it.

*

dress3*

i’ve been wearing these boots pretty much every day.  this outfit is casual and fun enough for lunch with girlfriends, but i’d also wear it to a casual holiday party.

*

okay, the second way.  i had to think outside of my box for this outfit, but i ended up loving it.

*

dress4*

i added grey tights and t-strap mary janes.  over the top a black cardigan and deep red scarf.  i thought the red in the scarf made the whole outfit feel more ‘holiday’.  i think this version is a bit more dressed up.

*

dress7

*

this outfit is so comfortable, too.  and tights really flatter the dress.

which outfit do you like better? aqua with boots or red scarf with t-straps?

  2. Jennifer on November 10th, 2009 10:00 am

I think they both turned out great, but I personally am a fan of boots. Either way looks gorgeous, what a great dress.

  3. Denise C. on November 10th, 2009 10:26 am

Very cute! I have 40lbs. to shed, then I can get myself a snazzy dress like that! ;)

  4. Christy on November 10th, 2009 10:30 am

Both ways are super cute!! You have great style.

  5. cheryl on November 10th, 2009 10:31 am

both are gorgeous, but i LOVE the outfit with the red scarf! i love your scarf tying too!

  6. michele stump on November 10th, 2009 10:35 am

Lisa, you are so pickin’ cute!!! You’ve always been so stylish.
I really love the aqua/boots and the way the aqua compliments your skin and dress color. But those tights/shoes are great. They remind me of some shoes you had in college. Remember how you had to make up a sign out sheet for your closet because everyone wanted to borrow your clothes so much? Good times.

  7. Paige Whitley on November 10th, 2009 10:49 am

The tights and shoes with the aqua sweater buttoned at the waist and cinched tighter with a skinny belt would look good too. A super fitted, thin sweater UNDER the dress, and either tights or boots is another option. A shrug with heels and sheer hose would look really fancy (ohhh, lONG pearls with that one) You could wear this at least 5 different ways. Flip flops and a jean jacket…leggings, boots and a pretty poncho…just keeps getting better! It’s a great length, I think that’s what makes it so versatile.

Work it! Strut your stuff. My sister the jewelry maker, model and photgrapher. Is there anything you can’t do?

  11. Sandra on November 10th, 2009 11:37 am

  14. Denissa on November 10th, 2009 11:44 am

  15. marcea on November 10th, 2009 11:56 am

both look great! I do like the look with the red scarf the best! Great taste!

  16. Jacky at The Sweetest Petunia on November 10th, 2009 12:01 pm

Both are just lovely, but I’m leaning towards the black & red–so chic and festive! But like i said, I like them both. ;)

  17. Tiffany on November 10th, 2009 12:06 pm

Awesome! absolutely adorable outfits you put together using just one dress! I do this all the time with my outfits. I really only have a couple of dresses that I wear so often thinking outside the box is required! Headbands, jewelry, cardigans, scarves etc always help to make a completely new outfit. Love it!!!!!

  18. Jenny on November 10th, 2009 12:16 pm

I don’t think it really matters what you wear - you are beautiful! I like how you’re growing your hair out… so pretty.

  19. Tiffany on November 10th, 2009 12:32 pm

You are adorable!! Love both looks, I think do the aqua sweater and boots for a day time thing and the tights and t-straps with black sweater for an evening event!!

    Thanks for sharing!!

I really love both of them.. that is an gorg dress and really am loving both style.. i think the aqua is a little more fall/thanksgiving and the red totally gives a punch for the Christmas season.. i do love the tights with those shoes.. fabulous! All around beautiful and most justifiable find! :)

  21. Heather on November 10th, 2009 12:52 pm

Seriously? You are too darn cute!

  22. Jenny on November 10th, 2009 12:58 pm

Love them both! I’ve been wearing my boots a lot too. I am looking forward to wearing dresses again…I’ve been a nursing mama for over 2 1/2 years now. Dresses are not so nursing friendly and the nursing dresses are well, not so cute. You picked a winner there!

  23. AbbyS on November 10th, 2009 1:21 pm

You are adorable! Love both ensembles!! You are SO inspiring! :) Have a Happy Day!

I absolutely love your style - both outfits are just beautiful!!!

  28. Robbin on November 10th, 2009 4:56 pm

Oh to be able to find a dress that fits so nicely and flatteringly. Too many rolls that show. But it’s an inspiration. Maybe I can shed the pounds and buy some new outfits. You are too adorable, Lisa. Love your fashion sense and the way you can change an outfit from casual to dressy. Beautiful!

  29. treeathie on November 10th, 2009 5:10 pm

They are both great outfits! I pick the second outfit but with the boots instead. :)

Love them both. Honestly you look way better in the dress then the model on the Melania Renee site. They should have you model for them!

  39. Cindy on November 10th, 2009 11:23 pm

Have you seen the website where the woman is wearing one dress for an entire year??? Adorable! There’s so many things you could do with this dress. I love it both ways, very Anthropologie. You have to google the one dress girl and be amazed….

  40. Jackie Smith on November 11th, 2009 1:54 am

MUST HAVE BOTH LOOKS…..HEE HEE….so cute, and those tights and t strap shoes……luv it!!!

  42. SarahBfromMN on November 11th, 2009 9:47 am

It’s so flattering on you with the waist the way it is. I’m going to say aqua with boots b/c it’s casual yet cool and aqua is my new fav color (wearing it today actually *smile). If I saw you on the street I would most definitely turn to my husband and say, “did you see that girl? Where do people find cute stuff like that?!”

Have a fabulous day, Lisa. :)

  43. Kenna on November 11th, 2009 10:22 am

both ways look great! I have that same red scarf from Target and absolutely love it!!!!!

both outfits are great! maybe its the subject.

  46. Heather on November 11th, 2009 12:19 pm

Both are lovely, but I prefer the red scarf and dark cardigan. The darker colors seem to better complement your beauty.

  47. stacy henagan on November 11th, 2009 2:35 pm

You are darling in that dress. I love how you support other people and want to make them succeed. I love how you “shout out” to other stores, designers, etc. Way to go! You’ll continue to be blessed b/c of it.
    Love.
