• Hi, I'm Lisa-mommy to my boys, David, 8 and Matty, 6 and wife to Steve. In between school and work we spend our time playing outdoors on the central coast of CA, eating chocolate chip pancakes, tapping tunes on the piano (David) and choreographing elaborate lightsaber duels (Matty). I create handmade jewelry and love taking pictures. Stick around and get to know us!

celebrating 6.

bday61

*

matthias turned six last week, but because we had a wedding out of town, we celebrated this weekend.

He definitely wanted a power rangers party.  no question about it!

since the party was at two, i just set out some munchies–cheese, crackers, salami, hummus and crackers,

spinach dip and of course cupcakes!

chrissie made this adorable (or should i say AWESOME) banner that read ‘mighty morphin matty’.

she recently started an online shop called handmade play.  it’s perfect for everyday play and party planning.

you can find the banner here.

not sure why, but lightsabers became the hot thing.

last year we had a star wars party, so we have at least 10 lightsabers around the house.

poor steve, he wasn’t expecting to be the ‘bad guy’.

everyone ATTACK matthias’ daddy!!!

it was so fun to have my sister and her girls here.  she way so helpful.

especially when i had my it’s-one-hour-until-the-party-and-the-house-is-a-mess-and-i-have-no-makeup-on freak out.

guess the party wasn’t exciting enough for david–he sacked out.

lots of balloons and paper lanterns.  so cute.

steve taught the kids some power ranger moves.

they all practiced jumping off the wall like power rangers.  it was awesome.

those kids have some moves!

and matthias got so many wonderful gifts.

including a snuggie which he really, really wanted.

and uh, even though they’re a little dorky, i kinda want one too!

cuddling up with a snuggie sounds pretty good right now.

the weekend was full of party prep and clean up, time with family

and friends, cupcakes and happy kids.

tell me about your weekend.

okay…everything about your party looks adorable! Happy Birthday Matty!

I’m glad to hear that other people have that hour-before meltdown too.

My weekend went too fast, but it included a three hour breakfast with Beth, my 9 year’s first basketball game, and reading the first 100 pages of Same Kind of Different as Me. pretty cool, huh?

Lisa! You didn’t tell me about your secret love of Snuggies! Katie got a pink one for Christmas (kid-sized), and Ted uses it after she goes to bed! Ha! Big Daddy with a short, pink Snuggie. If he’s really nice, I may get him grown-up version for Valentine’s Day. (It still might be pink, though!) :-)

Lots of cozy in the house, everyone together hanging out and being a family.

I spent the weekend with friends. On Saturday, we headed downtown and went to a farmer’s market, did some homework at a coffee shop and then went to a tattoo appointment we had made a week before. I got the words “Keep breathing.” on my wrist, in my own writing. I got the idea from Ingrid Michaelson’s song “Keep Breathing”. Whenever I hear that song, I instantly feel calmer. So, the words on my wrist will remind me that life goes on, everything will be okay, and to try not to stress.

    Looks like a lovely weekend!
I received a pink snuggie for Christmas and I absolutely love it. I also gave one to a family member and her eyes lit up with excitement when she opened it. She said she wanted one but was too embarrassed to ask for it. =) They are definitely worth having!

  19. Amy on January 25th, 2010 10:16 am

Happy Birthday to Matty! The party looks like great fun–just the type of thing my own 5-year old would love! Love the kids attacking Steve with the light sabers, such fun (for them)!!!

  20. Gina on January 25th, 2010 10:32 am

I love homemade birthday parties - I think the kids really remember them more, and in a fonder way! My 11 year old really, wanted a Snuggie, too. He loves it! What about it appeals to kids so much? Maybe the aspect of cuddling on the sofa next to Mom or Dad?

  21. denise on January 25th, 2010 10:40 am

i secretly hoped i’d get a snuggie for christmas, but no luck! i juat wear my robe backwards and call it good.

What a fun bday! How do you and your sister have such great hair?? My hair is naturally curly, but doesn’t look that great!
My favorite thing this weekend was just getting to sit down on the couch with my 8 yr. old and read one of her chapter books together with her…she’s a good reader, so she wants to pick books way above her grade level and this gives me a chance to discuss some of the more sophisticated than her age issues in the book w/ her.

  30. Lemonade Makin' Mama on January 25th, 2010 12:44 pm

What a fun party! You and your sister are so cute! I can’t believe how great your hair is… man, jealous. :)
