• Hi, I'm Lisa-mommy to my boys, David, 8 and Matty, 6 and wife to Steve. In between school and work we spend our time playing outdoors on the central coast of CA, eating chocolate chip pancakes, tapping tunes on the piano (David) and choreographing elaborate lightsaber duels (Matty). I create handmade jewelry and love taking pictures. Stick around and get to know us!

kites3-custom-hand-stamped-jewelry*

we had about 15 college students over monday night for dinner during finals week.

can i just say, i do not miss finals!!

i made taco stack-up. i put 4 lbs of (already cooked) seasoned ground turkey in the crock-pot and

set out bowls of lettuce, beans, chesse, etc.

we served buffet style. easy, peasy.

what’s your go-to dinner for guests?

i’m working on some big projects this week and making progress.

let’s end today with a ‘would you rather?’

would you rather wake up to birds chirping and the sun shining

OR waves crashing on the beach and cloudy skies??

I’d pick the sun and birds…but can I go to the beach later in the day?? :)

  2. RebeccaL on March 18th, 2010 9:36 am

Right now I’d pick the beach and cloudy skies. Mainly because that would mean I was on vacation and I really need a vacation!

  3. Susan Bowen on March 18th, 2010 9:39 am

Hmm… crashing waves and cloudy skies always make me think deep thoughts…. and since my brain needs a vacation I think I’ll choose the birdies and brightness! Ahhhh…

  4. Kathy on March 18th, 2010 9:43 am

“Sun” for sure - it’s been cloudy here all week and it’s driving me mad…

  5. cheryl on March 18th, 2010 9:44 am

today i would rather hear the birds chirping and the sun shining…but the waves crashing sounds pretty tempting too!

  6. Stacy on March 18th, 2010 9:44 am

I’ll take the sun shining any day, anywhere!

  7. Jackie on March 18th, 2010 9:46 am

I’d say the waves crashing! I live in AZ so “sunshine is a plenty”.

To be near the beach- ahhhhhh!

  8. Lisa on March 18th, 2010 9:46 am

Oh man ~ that’s a hard one because I love, love, love the ocean ~ I am sun deprived enough to choose the birds and the sun shining!

  9. Susan Robinson on March 18th, 2010 9:48 am

I think I’m going to go with the waves and cloudy skies. There’s always the hope that the sky will clear up and the sun will come out. I do have to say that I love waking up to a sunny day with happy birds though. It just starts everything off right.
My favorite go to meal is anything on the grill. If I don’t have to heat the oven, or stand over the stove, it’s a good thing. Being California transplants, we can be found grilling in the snow. I think the neighbors find us an odd family. I even like cooking salad on the grill. Cut Romaine in half lengthwise, sprinkle with olive oil, sea salt and cracked black pepper (sparingly on both sides, just until lightly coated), grill on each side for 2 minutes. I add a little blue cheese crumbles, or feta crumbles with bacon bits after cooking and there it is. Try it.

  10. Mandi on March 18th, 2010 9:52 am

Birds and sunshine for me! I’m not a beachy gal ;)

  11. Liz S on March 18th, 2010 10:11 am

    sun, sun, SUN!

  12. Jenny on March 18th, 2010 10:16 am

Definitely the sunshine and the beautiful birdie symphony. And my go-to is pizzas from scratch. YUM! With a salad on the side, just to make it healthy. :-)

  13. Katie on March 18th, 2010 10:17 am

I LOVE the beach but would take the sun over clouds any day!

  14. Jacky {The Sweetest Petunia} on March 18th, 2010 10:23 am

I prefer the sunshine and {quiet} birdies. And I’d put on some beautiful piano instrumentals and sip my coffee from an aqua mug in a quiet house…and, I actually did that this morning! The sadness is that I don’t think this peace will happen again very soon, and I desperately need it.

  15. Theresa on March 18th, 2010 10:50 am

What a beautiful Lady, David’s Aide is. She has such care and love in her eyes. A true blessing for both of them. A shared love.

I’d rather wake up to the sound of waves crashing and the sun shinning. I have to be a little difficult. :)

  16. Corinne on March 18th, 2010 11:03 am

That’s a tough one… but I have to go with waves crashing. All the way.
What a great idea for hosting a dinner - I might have to steal that menu ;)

  17. Sharon on March 18th, 2010 11:08 am

depends on the day - it is nice that God gives us so many versions of the world that can speak to our hearts and I love experiencing them all, but normally I love sunshine:)

  18. Rebecca on March 18th, 2010 11:10 am

Birds chirping and the sunshine! I love the beach, but the sunshine is so nice right now as we welcome spring!

  19. becky in maryland on March 18th, 2010 11:14 am

    the beach - no question!

  20. Sarah Markley on March 18th, 2010 11:27 am

    waves crashing, cloudy hands down.

    any day of the year.

  21. Southern Gal on March 18th, 2010 11:27 am

I LOVE the beach and spend vacations most every summer there. So I’ll have to go with the beach on this one.

Go to dinner - spaghetti or Southwestern Casserole.

  22. Leah on March 18th, 2010 11:29 am

    the ocean!

  23. Becky on March 18th, 2010 11:30 am

As much as I love warm sunny spring days, I would choose a cloudy day with waves crashing. Sunshine makes everything so nice and bright, but the ocean can be so dynamic and unpredictable. The colours, the smells, the sounds, the moods of the ocean feed my soul more than anything else.

Can you tell I’m from the Pacific Northwest?

  24. MommaKiss on March 18th, 2010 11:34 am

I’ll take Waves Crashing AND sunny skies! I used to live near Lake Superior (Upper Michigan) and the great lake waves are heavenly.

  25. jodi @ back40life on March 18th, 2010 11:35 am

I think birds chirping, but the ocean is hard to beat!

  26. Bethany on March 18th, 2010 11:37 am

DEF. the birds chirping and sun shining - ie: this morning in Oregon. =) Love the ocean, but the cloudy skies are a no-can-do.

  27. Jenni on March 18th, 2010 11:42 am

    Give me the birds and sunshine! {can’t wait to hear the western meadowlarks}

  28. Tiffany Day on March 18th, 2010 11:44 am

    Hi Lisa,

Oh that is SUCH a tough one! I LOVE the beach would live right near it in a heart beat if I could - but the sun shining is what I am craving lately - sooooo I guess I would pick BOTH!! HAHAAHA

My go to dinner for company is a super easy bean dip with chips, salsa and guacamole, spanish rice and taquitos. Or BBQed chicken, potatoes and salad.

    Have a great day!
    xoTiffany

  29. Paige on March 18th, 2010 11:54 am

Now that a tough “would you rather” becuase I love the beach and the sound of the waves is pretty amazing. But, I think I’ll take the sun. It is 66 degrees and sunny and perfectly lovely in NY today. I LOVE it!

  30. Jenn on March 18th, 2010 12:26 pm

My go-to meal for guests is Taco Soup & cornbread. The soup is served with sour cream, grated cheese, and Fritos on top. Of course the cornbread is served with honey, butter, and jam options.

I would choose the ocean. I love the sound of pouring rain and the ocean.

  31. Jenn on March 18th, 2010 12:29 pm

Also, wanted you to know that I mentioned my new necklace from you on my blog: http://livelifeartfully.blogspot.com/2010/03/17-things-im-loving-in-honor-of-st.html

  32. Cindy on March 18th, 2010 12:37 pm

Today I had sun and birdies - can i have ocean tomorrow?

  33. Kathy on March 18th, 2010 12:46 pm

The sun and birdies have lifted my spirits lately. So welcome after a weary winter! But, oh, the ocean. Love that, too!

  34. Bonnie on March 18th, 2010 1:06 pm

I couldn’t choose between the two. The sound of waves crashing against the shoreline and a grey, misty morning is such a peaceful way to start the day. Birds chirping and the sun shining greets you with energy in your soul and puts a bounce in your step. I love them both!!

  35. laurie eller on March 18th, 2010 1:13 pm

    oh the ocean definitely. :)
my husband plays this game but unfortunately it always goes something like this, “would you rather be eaten by a gorilla or stepped on by a dinosaur?” :) lol i like your game way bettta! :)

  36. Bronwyn Poth on March 18th, 2010 1:16 pm

I thought my family was the only family who knew this recipe! It’s what we always make when we used to get together. I can remember the first time my mom made this fantastic meal. I was 7 yrs. old and she called it “Haystacks” and we loved it! So now I make it at least twice a month for my family and we all walk away with full…full stomachs. We use Veggie Baked Beans instead of ground turkey. My mom was a vegetarian. Love it!

  37. Elicia on March 18th, 2010 1:27 pm

birds and sun - birds and sun - birds and sun :)

  38. Amanda Jean Inez on March 18th, 2010 1:47 pm

Waves crashing on the beach and cloudy skies because that would mean I was away from school and midterms!

  39. shana on March 18th, 2010 1:47 pm

    hmmmm, i think the birds!
where i come from 78 and lovely IS called summer!
    blessings,
    shana

  40. Michelle on March 18th, 2010 1:48 pm

As much as I love & NEED sunlight, I would go for the beach anytime, anywhere :) It reminds me of God’s unfailing love….waves always, unfailingly rolling in…just let the waves of God’s love wash over…

  41. MelindaV on March 18th, 2010 1:49 pm

I would definitely go with birds chirping!! We are enjoying the 50 degree weather here in the midwest. It is what we would call a heat wave!

  42. Kristi F on March 18th, 2010 2:00 pm

    Waves, absolutely!

  43. Lemonade Makin' Mama on March 18th, 2010 2:28 pm

I love your would you rather… mainly because they are always good ones! :)

    Love your sweet photos.

  44. Lori-Anne on March 18th, 2010 2:37 pm

That’s a tough question! Since I’m in the mood for spring right now, I’m going to take the sun and birds. When the summer heat hits, however, I might lean more toward the clouds and waves. The perfect day would be a mix of all four!

  45. Kristen Borland on March 18th, 2010 3:03 pm

i’m loving a little warmth right now (mainly because that means “good-bye flu season”), but i have to say i will always love me a good cloudy sky…

  46. Philippa on March 18th, 2010 3:10 pm

Hi, I’d love to wake up to the birds singing, sun shining and waves crashing on a beach all at the same time! Giggle… I love sunny days but I also love the feeling of exhiliration that comes from walking along a rugged coastline in the middle of a storm with the waves crashing over the rocks sending up plumes of spray! I used to live in Wellington and there were lots of days like that - the weather in Wellington is gnarly to say the least! So happy I no longer live there, but do miss those wild sea days. Hmmm this comment seems to be full of contradictions, giggle! Smiles

  47. Clare on March 18th, 2010 3:22 pm

Birds & sun, waves crashing reminds me of holidays so it makes it special if it doesn’t happen too often x x

  48. Kelly on March 18th, 2010 6:41 pm

The birdies and the sun…and luckily, with the warmer weather, I’ve been waking up that way all week! (Bedroom windows open, breezy, sun and birdsong….love Spring!)

  49. Dawn McCarron on March 18th, 2010 7:38 pm

    Birds and sun for sure!

  50. Susan on March 18th, 2010 7:58 pm

birds and sunshine, without a doubt…
Love your blog, your jewelry, your kids, you!
    Blessings!

  51. Lisa on March 18th, 2010 8:02 pm

Waves crashing and cloudy skies… waves crashing is one of the most peaceful sounds in the whole world & I always love a good storm!

  52. Kristin on March 18th, 2010 9:12 pm

Love the sun, but I’d have to say the beach b/c I miss it so much after being in CO for 3 years…talk about landlocked! Boy did I take it for granted all the years I was near it.

  53. sarita on March 18th, 2010 10:28 pm

love the idea of the meat in the crock pot to keep it warm!! i will be using that!! i usually put my crock pot in the garage in the summer so i won’t heat my kitchen up! i live in southern california desert - and i’m NOT READY for the summer - but am loving the sun and warmth here..
    love your blog!

  54. sumi on March 18th, 2010 10:42 pm

Sun and birds…I grew up waking up with birdsong. Since the weather was so mild year round, we never had airconditioning. The windows were always open to let the breeze and the birdsong in. :-)
I miss that here in my little corner of the US.

  55. Kris on March 19th, 2010 10:04 am

    Sun and birds please!

  56. maryanne on March 19th, 2010 1:43 pm

I would so much rather wake up to cloudy skies, on a warm September day, out in Southampton on the beach when everybody has gone but the college students and the residents. It’s so beautiful then….

  57. denise on March 22nd, 2010 9:50 am

the ocean’s roar (we were in morrow bay and at moonstone beach yesterday). the ocean is romance, it is God crashing over me.

saw that little hiding man this weekend too. a.d.or.able. :-)
