handmade project: decoupaged candles

November 30th | DIY

here’s a {fairly} quick and very low cost project

with such sweet results! decoupaged candles. love!

i bought some tall glass religious candles from target about $1.50 each

and used modge podge to decoupage white tissue paper around the outside.

i intentionally let it wrinkle and crinkle–it gives it a more organic look.

after i let them dry completely {24 hours}

i spruced them up with rhinestones from a local craft store

and created tissue paper flowers by cutting out small circles, crumpling them and layering them together.

a great project for kiddos, too!

wouldn’t it be lovely to have five of these down a long table

with white trees and silver ornaments?

my little sweetheart

November 29th | david

david went back to school this week.

and i am simultaneously so happy and so sad!

so relieved he is healing and happy. and i’ll miss having him with me all day.

isn’t that how it is to be a mom? a heart constantly split in two-

with love and worry and guilt and happy. so good though.

i am so thankful. my heart is full.

i love my little sweetheart.

mantel makeover {christmas}

November 29th | decorating

our old home {which we loved} didn’t have a mantel

so i am so excited to decorate the mantel in our new home this year!

here’s the before shot {above}

a bunch of stretched canvases, some starfish and a funky frame.

we are using sage green red and silver around the house

and mixing in some other colors too. i’m not too strict with color themes!

old books, berries, silver ornaments.

i am so excited for christmas and decorating is half the fun!

my mom bought me some christmas decor when i was first married {11 years now}

and every year i mix it up with a few new things.

i love using the same stuff every year!

i love white and silver trees-so versatile!

what colors are you decorating with this year?

what’s your favorite piece to use year after year?

handmade project: doormat

November 27th | DIY

so i made some more of my own stencils again.

i think i might be addicted!

i used american typewriter (bold).

then i cut away the black letters and taped up the remaining paper.

homemade stencils!

i picked up a couple mats at ikea ($5 each). love!

take your time and brush inwards to get a clean line.

black paint and an orange plate, you almost thought this was a halloween project. ha!

I guess i used a glossy paint-but it turned out great!

we love our new doormat-perfect for christmas!

old dress/new skirt

November 26th | finding beauty

i bought a red, polka dot dress at my fave thrift store a few weeks ago

only $10 and it fit perfectly!

buuut it had a high neck and a big bow and every time i put it on, they bugged me.

so after a few try-ons and not wearing it, this morning i decided to make it into a skirt.

i mean, what’s the risk. it was either get rid of it or do something drastic!

i paired it with a v-neck tee, aqua sweater and anthro boots.

do you ever alter clothing? have you ever cut off sleeves

or made a skirt into a dress? {or vice versa?}

handmade project: vintage ornament wreath

November 25th | decorating, DIY

1. i hit the vintage ornament jackpot at my favorite thrift store.

so fun!!

2. so i pulled out my trusty glue gun and

3. i picked up a foam wreath at our local craft shop. $5.

4. first i glued all the red ones around the base

and then worked in the blues, then the greens

5. matty helped me.

i kept the small ornaments until the end filled in all the little gaps.

6. it took about 50-60 ornaments. more than i expected!

and i’ve already got mine hanging in the living room.

let the christmas decorating BEGIN!

have you started decorating??

happy thanksgiving!
