after christmas fun

December 30th | family, videos

we hosted 22 family members at our home this week. uncles, cousins, aunties, grandparents-it was such a sweet {and crazy} time. we loved having everyone together. i made a video of lots of little moments. mostly just hanging around, in jammies, playing and being together. i know the cousins are making memories they will carry forever and it makes my heart full.

{new} word of the year necklace

December 30th | jewelry

wow, 2011 is here! we’re teaming up with ali edwards again and her one little word project. click here to read all about it!

this year i am chosing the word grace. i want to give myself more of it. i need to let things be imperfect. i’m planning to rest more. i want to let it be okay when things go awry and the plan goes out the window.

january is a new beginning and the perfect time to reflect on making a simple change. what will your word be?

{check out the new necklace here!}

seagulls {+silliness}

December 29th | family, photography, san luis obispo

we played in morro bay yesterday. that’s a lot of rhyming.

it was coooold! someone was feeding the seagulls and they were going crazy!

and the cousins were crazy too! so silly.

they were chasing seagulls, climbing rocks and having a blast.

my dad got a sigma 18-200 lens for christmas.

and he’s having a great time figuring it out.

so many birds, so close!

i love seeing the cousins together. such sweet memories being made!

and last a heart-shaped puddle that my sis-in-law showed me.

i love almost anything heart shaped! so fun!

it’s almost time to take down the tree and decorations. when the decorations come down the house feels more open. i always like to have a few fresh new things to put out in the new year. any ideas for refreshing your home after christmas? i’d love to hear!

before/after

December 23rd | blog friends, decorating

matthias woke up this morning {at 5am} and whispered “is it christmas today?”. nope, but so close! and we are slowing down around here and getting ready for family. so excited!

i thought i would share a couple before/after projects with you, just for fun!

oh this chair. it was $30 at my fave thrift store and had great lines. but when i got it home i definitely had second thoughts since it was so grubby. it’s from the 40′s and the seat cushion actually has springs in it! everything was still solid, so i bought some amy butler fabric {jade, heavy weight} online and found a women who does re-upholstery on craigslist. the project took about 4x longer than planned but the result is so fun.

it really brightens up our living room! the total project cost about $250. not super cheap, but reasonable. and a new chair would have been twice that, i guess!

this is a buffet i found on craigslist for $60. $60? i freaked out. it has great basic lines, it’s in great shape, and i love buffets. so fun!

i painted it black and sanded it a lot around the edges of each drawer. i changed out the hardware to a basic black pull from martha stewart’s line at home depot. this project cost about $100. that’s an insanely good deal with a little bit of elbow grease!

check out this kitchen before and after from lindsey {better after} HERE. how inspiring!

and i seriously love this yellow dresser makeover HERE.

and have you met the talented miss holly? you can see her magic HERE.

jenny from little green notebook made over THIS crazy cute chair.

and how easy and darling is this idea from the nesting place HERE?

hope you got inspired! happy two-days-before-christmas!

what i wore wednesday

December 22nd | what i wore wednesdays

hello! wow it’s wednesday but i am so in christmas mode and out of my regular schedule! only 3 days until christmas yay!!

and i’m linking up with lindsey for what i wore wednesday {click here to see her blog!}

this feels like such a cozy, basic ME outfit.

black ruffle top, local boutique

black cardi {with lace back} gift from scotland

jeans, banana republic

boots, my fave jessica simpson {which or no longer available, boo!}

this outfit was a bit stretching for me. i got the dress which was crazy marked down at anthro {from $270 to $60}. but’s it’s so ruffly so it felt really dressy. finally i just paired it with some frye boots and a target cardi and wore it on a school/work day. it ended up being really comfortable and fun!

this outfit was different for me since it was more form fitting and i usually wear dresses or flowly tops. a bunch of friends commented on how different it was for me.

striped 3/4 sleeve top, on sale at gap $10

brown camisole, local boutique

jeans, anthro

boots, frye

scarf, target

it’s been raining for 5 days straight here! we’re all about sweaters, scarves, cozy fireplaces and hot cocoa to stay warm and snuggly. how are you keeping cozy this winter?

vintage love {ontology}

December 21st | decorating, san luis obispo

we went treasure hunting at the new ontology shop downtown

{on monterey near urban outfitters in san luis obispo}

so fun. kind of a mix between vintage and garage sale with lots to discover.

i came away with a globe and a metal ‘L’ from a old sign.

have you found any good treasures lately?

list-making

December 20th | thoughts

apparently, even as a little girl i made important lists. don’t i look so serious! i wonder what i was writing?

on today’s list…

call david’s cardio

target {wrapping paper, tape, extra pillows, kleenex}

put laundry away {uh, this is on my list every day & i hardly ever do it}

bake cookies for decorating

find some fun stocking stuffers for my boys

take matthias to art class

ship out the last of the christmas orders this morning!

are you a list maker? what the most fun thing on your list today??
