books.

January 23rd | thoughts

my sister gave me the sweetest copy of pride and prejudice for christmas–and since i’ve seen the movie {all versions} many times, i figured it was finally time to settle down and read it too! should i admit this my first time to read pride and prejudice?

it’s so fun! the last book i read was fun, but certainly not great literature. some days i can only squeeze in about 15 minutes of reading before bedtime, but it’s good for my soul.

have you read any good books lately–whether they’re great literature or not?

hip hip hooray

January 21st | family, san luis obispo

the weather has been insanely warm and beautiful. last weekend was about 70* {in january?!}

so the boys and i hit the beach in cambria. what a gorgeous day. i could hardly take it in!

the boys ran around and played and chased the waves (or the waves chased them!) and then we went into town and got ice cream.

david was crazy–running straight for the water while i was busy shooting pics and then i had to chase him down before a wave clobbered him. so fun to see him playing and growing!

it was just a magical day. i loved it.

hip hip hooray for friday! david’s cardio appt went really well yesterday. today we see the pulmonologist. and we’re making a little time to play, too!

what do you have planned for this weekend?

{new} button button bracelet

January 20th | blog friends, jewelry

i am so excited about this little bracelet. the buttons are so cute i can hardly stand it! and i love that buttons represent a connection, keeping something in place. isn’t that perfect?!

i have two good friends who spend a lot of their time sewing. you might know these amazing ladies. maggie {here} from gussy who stitches up a mean ruffle and my sweet lindsey {here} from the pleated poppy who makes posie pins and scarves and so many beautiful things! you’ll spot a bracelet for each of them in these pics. i think this is a perfect bracelet for someone who sews or is creative. so sweet!

you can see more details about the button button bracelet HERE.

my grandma collected buttons and passed on her sweet collection to her daughters and granddaughters. do you love buttons like i do? what do you do with all those little extra buttons that come with clothing?

an everyday moment

January 19th | an everyday moment

i want to capture more pictures of every day moments. the mundane stuff. the stuff that sometimes feels hard because i’m tired and it’s one more thing.

but isn’t it the everyday tasks and chores that can be the sweetest moments together? the moments fill up our days and are so much of our ‘together’ time. i want to treasure these moments.

so we’ll start off with bathtime. which the boys love and most of the time i’m tired and i don’t want too much splashing. but i must say, there is nothing NOTHING better than a freshly bathed, yummy smelling kiddo.

we are off to take david to LA for cardiology and pulmonology appointments tomorrow and friday. we expect both appointments to go swimmingly, since he is doing so well!  even doctor visits can be sweet moments!

what everyday moments do you need to treasure today?

my treasure.

January 18th | family, jewelry

i love mason jars. of course for canning jam, but also for gathering things–buttons, twigs, shells, candles. all of it. love.

wouldn’t it be fun to actually be able to store hugs and kisses in a cute jar?  our new ‘my treasure’ necklace reminds me to treasure every hug and every kiss and hold them close to my heart.

answering questions {2}

January 18th | answering questions {videos}

hi friends! i’ve got another little video today! this week’s question is, ‘what does your workday look like?’ and you can see a bit of my workshop in there too!

now tell me, what does your workday look like? [beacause whether you have a job, you're in school or you're a stay at home mom, we have plenty of work to do!]

paint+glitter

January 17th | decorating, DIY

as you know, i love a quick and easy project. and i love hearts and glitter–so this is pretty much perfect for me! {and perfect for valentines!}

i spread a lot of aqua paint over an 8×10 canvas. i wanted a lot of texture. i left the edges white-but it would be easy to cover the edges too.

then i used a heart cutout {while the paint was still wet} as a stencil and sprinkled red glitter around the edge of the heart.

remove the heart and let the paint dry completely.

so fun and easy peasy. of course you can do the same thing with any shape-bird, star, crown, flower, an initial. lots of possibilities.

raise your hand if you love valentine’s day and hearts and glitter!
