pretty

October 11th | an everyday moment, thoughts

a couple weeks ago i popped into sephora with my friend jen and her daughter gracie. we tried on different lipsticks and gracie was so cute–she felt so grown up and pretty.

when i was little twirly skirts, lipstick. lots of barrettes, and sparkly shoes were sure to make me feel glamourous.  and i got to thinking, what makes me feel pretty these days? here’s a short list of things that come to mind…

new shoes

a good haircut

a restful night’s sleep

laughing with friends

my husband telling me i’m beautiful

most of all, accepting that i was made to be me.

what makes you feel pretty?

max & gracie {capturing the everyday}

September 23rd | an everyday moment, inspiration, photography

the other day my sweet friend, jen, asked me to shoot some pics of her kiddos. our kids play together a lot and so we just kept it simple and met right near our house.

the kids were just out of school, a little tired and probably a little grumpy. so we just relaxed, told some knock knock jokes and started to play a bit.

they cheered up and i was able to capture their sweet faces {and their sweet smiles}

right now these pics are just simple, every day moments. but some day they’ll look back at these pictures and remember being little, being together and being silly.

i brought that pretty necklace for gracie to wear–and she loved it. her face lit up.

there are no pics of it–but i had max showing me some lightsaber tricks with a big stick we found. it really helped him to relax.

have you used your camera to capture some everyday moments lately?

amazed by david

September 1st | an everyday moment, david, thoughts

my head is full of thoughts about this little boy.

while we were in england he decided to sneak out the back door, down two steps, past the side gate and into the front yard. steve and i were absolutely flabbergasted since david is very cautious around stairs and always wants help descending. i love when he shows independence, but it’s also concerning since we never know what he’ll do next!

earlier today i was reflecting on how much has changed in the last year. last summer david was fragile–constantly fighting colds and looking toward open heart surgery. i worried about him so much. now he is stonger, healthier and more energetic. he does new things every day and is communicating more and more. it makes my heart so happy to see him grow and explore–but it does worry me too. i feel like we have to watch him more closely. and we’ve been child-proofing the house even further–like replacing all our glasses with plastic tumblers. we also plan to install a gate at the top of our staircase.

today i am so incredibly thankful for david’s energy and adventurous spirit. and today i’m not going to worry too much. i want to let him be a kid and i don’t want to hover over him all the time. he is showing more independence–which means i need to let him have more independence!

today i’m amazed by david and what a miracle he is!

books, books, books

July 28th | an everyday moment, food & goodies

chrissie and i spent some serious time pouring over used books in carpinteria last week. they have some beautiful old books, art books, cook books, novels, classics–so fun! sometimes i pick up a book at target or borrow from my friends or sisters.

where do you get your books?

healthy eating

July 12th | an everyday moment, family

steve and i started the south beach diet yesterday. he wants to lose a few pounds, i want to cut back on sugar {oh sugar, how i love you!}. and if i lose a few pounds, i won’t complain! i shopped yesterday for fresh produce, lean meats, lean cheeses and some yummy spices. it all looks and tastes so delicious.

so why am i so hungry?! and headachy and dizzy. i’m hoping this will only last a few days and then my energy will increase!

avila beach

June 30th | an everyday moment, family, san luis obispo

one great thing about living in san luis obispo, is that it’s a vacation spot for many of our friends. so we end up getting to hang out with some pretty awesome people we don’t get to see nearly as much as we’d like. take the millers for example!

they were staying in avila beach {about 15 minutes south} so we went down to their hotel for the evening.

the kids had a blast playing in the rec room, swimming and eating BBQ and i loved getting to hang out with my friends. the whole evening was refreshing.

it was like a mini-vacation. we love you, millers! please come back soon.

i love to spend the afternoon at the beach or plan an overnighter to nearby cambria or carpinteria.

what is your favorite {close-by} getaway spot?

my spring to-do list

April 15th | an everyday moment

something about the blue skies, fresh air and sunshine makes me seriously want to freshen up my space and get creative!

here’s a few things on my spring to-do list…

1. simplify the kitchen counters {clear off clutter}

2. organize the boys’ toys. this feels like a massive project.

3. create a spring wreath {which hopefully i can share with you!}

4. find a mirror to hang over our bed

5. take a class at our community college. either photography or painting?

6. Make strawberry jam. And lots of it!

7. Spruce up our backyard with plants a new {maybe thrifted} table and chairs for warmer weather and outdoor eating!

8. What else??

david {loves} daddy

March 28th | an everyday moment, david, family

oh my goodness. this little boy sure loves his daddy.

and what’s not to love? his daddy is nurturing and fun and all around awesome.

i am so thankful that he is my kids’ daddy. i didn’t think very much about what kind of daddy my husband would be before we were married.

but i’m blessed. he’s a natural–so caring and loving. and of course rough and tumble.

when david was born i had so many questions. how will steve react? can we weather this storm? what will become of our family?

every day steve shows us how much he loves us and that he is committed to us.

david loves his daddy {and so do i!}

an everyday moment

March 17th | an everyday moment

instagram for iphone has been an amazing way for me to document life’s everyday moments. above, morning sun, shining on the plants in our front yard.

i get together with my coffee girls {my sweet friends jen and brenda} at least once a week. so fun.

i pass this barn every day on the way to work. it’s totally broken down and kind of charming.

our internet has been really choppy at home, so i’m doing lots of work at the office and the other morning i woke up early to head to my favorite coffee shop to complete some work. the street lights were still on and the glow was magical.

this is our shadow family, waiting outside to see rango last weekend. dinner at chili’s. such a fun family night.

what everyday moments are you treasuring today?
