craft weekend {part one}

May 9th | blog friends, events

Oh craft weekend, you are GOOD for the soul! I haven’t unpacked all my treasures from last weekend–I think I don’t want to admit it’s over.

Chrissie and I flew into Wichita late Thursday night, grabbed a milkshake from McDonald’s and drove three hours to Kansas City to do a morning show segment with Better TV, Kansas City. After the segment we did some hard core thrifting and drove back to Wichita to meet up with Meg, Kimberlee and the girls for craft weekend.

One of my favorite thrifted treasures is this apple red stapler–that works! $3.

I love vintage glassware but I hardly buy it as my boys tend to break it. We use plastic around here ;)

My twin sis, Chrissie completes me–and I know that’s totally cheesy but it’s also totally true!

When it comes to thrifting, that girl doesn’t mess around. She had to buy another suitcase to get all her {{amazing}} treasures home.

I couldn’t resist these adorable yellow metal letters. A perfect reminder to PLAY a little every day.

Dear friends. I wish I had more time with them–it’s never enough! Meg is honest and funny and heartfelt and REAL.

We had some gray skies and chilly rain. It felt more like winter than spring!

Do you know Kimberlee? Man, I love this girl. We share a heart connection. I haven’t laughed as hard or cried as much in a long time. Seriously GOOD!

This group can CRAFT! They are pros–and so sweet. And funny. I laughed a lot!!

And a thrifted dress–more on this one soon.

Just looking at these pics makes me want to go back. Have you done something that’s good for your soul today?

snap conference {recap}

April 25th | blog friends, events

Last weekend was the Snap! Conference in Salt Lake City. It’s targeted towards creative bloggers and it was an inspiring time together! There were fabulous speakers and also creative classes. I met so many amazing women and left encouraged. If you’re a creative blogger, I recommend attending next year!

The barn is where big meetings and meals took place–such a cool building!

Here’s the inside of the barn–with all the paper lanterns, it was magical.

Alissa from Rags to Stitches came along with me for my Studio 5 segment. We stopped and got cupcakes on the way.

Did you watch the Studio 5 segment? We had fun!

Utah in the spring is beautiful! The trees were blooming. There were tulips and daffodils everywhere. I love spring!

I spy a ‘falling leaves’ necklace on Sew Caroline!

Above is a pic of me during my keynote. Tauni asked me questions and I shared from my experience and my heart. It was a sweet time.

A waffle truck? Yes, please!

Jessica from The Mom Creative using a miter saw. Impressive!

So good to see old friends. Some of them I haven’t seen in a couple years. Love these girls!

Jessica and I explored Salt Lake City and saw the temple. I’m not Mormon, but it was breathtaking!

I found an old devotional that I brought back for Steve. It was published in 1830! I loved the worn cover and brown pages.

It’s good to be home but I’m not here for long. We travel to LA for doctor visits and then next weekend I’m off to Kansas for a craft weekend with Meg. Insane but so fun!!

Have you been to any good conferences lately or is there a conference you really want to attend?

celebrating andrew and annalea

March 29th | events, weddings

I don’t talk about them nearly enough,  but we have an AWESOME team. Andrew, from our customer care team, got married last weekend to the beautiful {inside and out} Annalea. It was a perfect opportunity to gather the team in the break room, bring in some delicious beignets and CELEBRATE! Yay! And of course, we had to bring out our adorable celebrate cake topper.

Aren’t they good together? I’m so excited for them.

Apparently the color of the day was turquoise. Awesome.

We gave them a bouquet token to use in the wedding and have as a keepsake.

Andrew and Annalea we are so excited for you and we’re celebrating with you as you bring your lives together. Marriage is such a beautiful thing.

What are you celebrating right now?

art for freedom

March 28th | events, inspiration

I love to get behind important causes, so when I was asked to create a necklace centered around human trafficking, I jumped at the chance! Jessica, our social media assistant, co-hosted the event and sang that evening. I’m thrilled that I was able to be even a small part of the evening and I invited Jess to share about the event with us! Take it away, Jess!

* * *

Hey everyone! Thank you for the opportunity to share a little about Art for Freedom. Human trafficking is an absolutely urgent issue and it is happening in our backyards. It’s heartbreaking. At the same time, it’s events like this that give my heart hope that there is an escape plan in place for those who are being enslaved. There are also a great amount of organizations and ministries popping up to join in the fight. Here is the necklace Lisa created to be auctioned off that night. Isn’t it gorgeous?!

The art show was at the adorable Hive Natural Beauty Collective. There was art donated from artists all over the central coast, feather hair pieces, t-shirts made by Hope Eternal, live art and more. There was also a handful of musicians who really brought the reality of human trafficking to life. I was blessed to be a part of the night. Here are some photos from the event:

All proceeds went to the start up of a human trafficking division of the SARP center. Read more about what they do here.

That’s me and my friend Johnny singing some originals and some covers, all centered around human trafficking. You can listen to Johnny’s tunes here and you can listen to some of mine here.

 Here is the completed live art by Shawn Martinez that was done as a response piece to human trafficking and inspired by the artists who performed that night. After it was completed, the winner of the “be their voice in silence” necklace was announced. Needless to say, she was elated!

Thank you Jessica! Your voice is amazing–so beautiful. What an amazing evening. We are so thankful to be part of it.

Today I’m feeling grateful for catching up on cuddles with my boys, my own cozy bed to sleep in and to work with a team of people who have BIG hearts. Share one thing you’re thankful for today!

matthias turns nine!

January 18th | events, family

Matthias turned nine. He is now nine years old. My baby is nine. CRAZY!!! To celebrate we had a Ninjago party with a few friends. I tried to keep it as simple as possible. Here’s what we did…

For the invitations I snapped a pic of Matthias with one of his favorite Ninjago characters. Then I added text and printed them at Costco’s one hour photo. I already had envelopes, so the total cost was $2.16. Awesome!

Homemade cake with lots of lots of frosting. Yum! And of course cake toppers from the shop. {The alaphabet toppers are coming soon!!}

For decor I got some balloons. Simple.

I couldn’t find any Ninjago party supplies, so I made these gift bags with card stock. There was lots of Ninjago inspiration on Pinterest.

The silly string war was for sure the highlight of the night. What a mess! {But fun!}

Kids could decorate ninja stars when they arrived. {Thanks Jack and Chloe for making the stars!}

We tested their ninja skills by having them transfer legos from one bowl to another using chopsticks. Hilarious!

We used a nerf gun and target to test their accuracy.

And at the end of the evening, Matthias was well loved, well fed and exhausted! It was a great party.

Are you planning any parties right now? Tell me about them!

dinner with friends {camp lawton}

January 17th | events, san luis obispo

Last Friday evening a few of us from the workshop decided to all have dinner together. It was so fun! We went over to Alex’s cute house and ate outside. They call their house Camp Lawton, and you really feel like you’re at camp when you’re there… a ridiculously cute Anthropologie-style camp. The evening was filled with great conversation and good chili. It was so fun and relaxing.

Everyone that lives with Alex is so creative. Check out their Camp Lawton house blog, I love it!

This chili was delicious and added to the ‘camp’ vibe. And cake for dessert. We could choose between vanilla with chocolate frosting or lemon cake.

Or both, of course!

A few of the faces behind Lisa Leonard Designs! So happy that we were able to hangout on a Friday night together. They are all wonderful. We seriously have the best team. They are the ones who make it happen!

The artist {Matthias}hard at work. He was so excited to be sitting next to Kyle who is an artist himself. Check out Kyle’s art blog, his work is amazing!

‘Superb man’, not to be confused with superman. We all got a pretty good laugh at the name of this new superhero. That boys creativity amazes me more and more everyday.

David went over to Tom and demanded to be cuddled.  Isn’t that sweet? I adore this picture. It was such a chilly night–but they look cozy!

This is the house cat Willow. She always is in the best places in the house for photos. She’s a very photogenic kitty.

This was such a nice and relaxing evening spent with people near and dear to our hearts. Thank you again Alex for sharing your beautiful home with us. Make sure to check out Camp Lawton’s blog and Alex’s photography blog. Our team is a creative bunch. I’m sure you will be inspired!

labor day BBQ {hello monday}

September 17th | events, hello monday

I didn’t want to forget to share pics from a labor day BBQ we had with friends. These are some of our oldest friends,

the ones we camp with every summer. And the time together is always sweet. Labor day feels like the official end to summer–don’t you think? Fall begins Sept. 22nd–so we’re almost there. But in my mind, summer is gone and fall is beginning. I thought this week was a great time for some hellos and some good-byes, too.

Hello shorter days, good-bye long evenings.

Hello cozy mornings with the fireplace on, good-bye sleeping in

Hello layering, good-bye tank tops

Hello scarfs and boots {love!}, good-bye flip flops

Hello soups and grilled cheese, good-bye outdoor BBQs

Hello leaves turning red, good-bye sprinkler play

Hello pumpkins, good-bye strawberries

Hello cinnamon candle, good-bye pear candle

Hello fall. I love a new beginning!
