a day of “merry-time” inspiration

March 7th | adventures, inspiration, san luis obispo

The team and I have been working SO hard getting ready for our big hope{full} launch, we decided we needed a day of rest and inspiration. Alex, our photographer/brand development specialist and Jess, our videographer/social media specialist and I headed down Highway 1 to Morro Bay. These are my favorite days! Here are some snap shots.

Vibrant flowers make my heart happy. Love this color combo!

Me, Alex & Jess! Love these girls! Notice the special necklace I’m wearing?

Headed into Poppy, one of the cutest boutiques in Morro Bay. They also carry our wholesale line, Heartfelt. So fun to visit!

Here are some of our Heartfelt pieces. Click here to see if there is a store near you!

Mmmm salt water taffy–definitely a must when visiting Morro Bay.

This is my friend Rowan Chase & his art gallery in Morro Bay. He is an amazing artist. Here Rowan is explaining the inspiration behind his latest piece. He does all of his paintings right there in the studio.

And for lunch… Taco Temple. This place is seriously to die for. California Mexican fusion… seriously yummy!

Random, I know, but Taco Temple has THE BEST carrot cake around. Home made, dense and delicious!

The sailor suit did not come home with me. Too funny.

Jess found an awesome deer head wall hanging. We named him Stanley.

That wraps up our inspiration day! Now I have lots of idea swirling around in my head. I’m making lists and planning.

What’s inspiring you?

5 favorite spots in San Luis Obispo {that only the locals know about!}

February 21st | adventures, san luis obispo

Living in San Luis Obispo for the last 8 years has been such a blessing. There are so many beautiful spots around town and in the surrounding areas. I thought it would be fun to share a few of my favorite spots. These are spots that a tourist might not know about, but the locals, or “SLOcals” love! Here it goes…

1. Secluded beaches in Shell Beach: Okay, so I went a little nuts with the first hidden spot. It was just so dang beautiful, I had to keep snapping pictures! There are two secluded beaches that us locals love. Here’s the first one:

This the view from a cliff of this spot in Shell Beach at Spyglass Park. The locals call this surf spot “St. Ann’s.” There is a big grass area and playground behind me and a bench overlooking the ocean. It’s a great spot to take the kids or spend some quiet time of reflection.

I love being secluded in nature. Maybe it’s the feeling of discovery. This place is seriously beautiful.

Here is the second secluded beach I wanted to share. It’s right off of Shell Beach Road below the Best Western. It can be tricky to find, but if you just follow the steps through the hotel and this is what you will find:

I love this picture of a seagull soaking in the sunset. I think we had the same idea.

2. Sally Loo’s Wholesome Café: I’m in love with not only the quality of their coffee, but the people who run this place. Everything is fair trade and seriously yummy. We invited Jen & Brandon, the owners, to bring their “wholesome hut” over to the workshop for a little coffee and scone break for our team.

That’s Jen and Brandon and here is their charming shop:

It’s tucked away on Osos St. right next to the Amtrak station. It also turns into a music venue occasionally! Check out their facebook page here.

Is this not the most adorable place you’ve ever seen? The atmosphere is so warm and inviting (And their menu is out of this world!)

3. Ruby Rose: Everything in this place is to die for…Ruby Rose is more than a consignment shop, it is like walking into the memories of those who came before us. From vintage to recycled…I have found so many treasures here!

The shop is “open for biz” Wednesday through Saturday. You can find this hidden gem wedged in between a couple industrial buildings on Walker Street on the outskirts of downtown.

Check them out on facebook! They are always posting pictures of new treasures.

Aren’t these displays so creative? The women who run the shop are always challenging each other and collaborating ideas. I get so inspired every time I come here!

4. Goshi Japanese Food: This place is hidden in the Creamery off of Higuera St. It is a little bit on the expensive side, but it is so worth it. All of the fish is fresh and the sushi is amazing.

Locals say this is hands down the best place to get sushi and I agree!

5. Dallidet Adobe and Gardens:  I had to share about this secret garden. The Dallidet Adobe has been here since the 1850′s as a home to Pierre Hypolite Dallidet and is now a historical center and California landmark. It is hidden behind Rite Aid with an entrance on Pacific Street and one on Toro St. It’s only open a few select days of the month.

It’s a great venue for weddings as well. There is an adorable outside lounge area with cute mirrors and decor, I love taking a moment to relax there whenever I go.

San Luis Obispo has a lot of history. I love to discover the little parts of my town that make it beautiful. I hope some day you get to come find the local spots and enjoy them as much as I do.

Tell us about an-off-the-beaten-path-only-the-locals-know-about-it spot in your town!

dinner with friends {camp lawton}

January 17th | events, san luis obispo

Last Friday evening a few of us from the workshop decided to all have dinner together. It was so fun! We went over to Alex’s cute house and ate outside. They call their house Camp Lawton, and you really feel like you’re at camp when you’re there… a ridiculously cute Anthropologie-style camp. The evening was filled with great conversation and good chili. It was so fun and relaxing.

Everyone that lives with Alex is so creative. Check out their Camp Lawton house blog, I love it!

This chili was delicious and added to the ‘camp’ vibe. And cake for dessert. We could choose between vanilla with chocolate frosting or lemon cake.

Or both, of course!

A few of the faces behind Lisa Leonard Designs! So happy that we were able to hangout on a Friday night together. They are all wonderful. We seriously have the best team. They are the ones who make it happen!

The artist {Matthias}hard at work. He was so excited to be sitting next to Kyle who is an artist himself. Check out Kyle’s art blog, his work is amazing!

‘Superb man’, not to be confused with superman. We all got a pretty good laugh at the name of this new superhero. That boys creativity amazes me more and more everyday.

David went over to Tom and demanded to be cuddled.  Isn’t that sweet? I adore this picture. It was such a chilly night–but they look cozy!

This is the house cat Willow. She always is in the best places in the house for photos. She’s a very photogenic kitty.

This was such a nice and relaxing evening spent with people near and dear to our hearts. Thank you again Alex for sharing your beautiful home with us. Make sure to check out Camp Lawton’s blog and Alex’s photography blog. Our team is a creative bunch. I’m sure you will be inspired!

hello monday {boutique love: hands gallery}

December 10th | inspiration, jewelry, san luis obispo

Before they were ever carrying my jewelry, Hands Gallery in downtown San Luis Obispo was one of my very favorite shops. They carry so many beautiful, handmade things. It’s Monday friends! How about some hellos for a new week?

Hello mug. Which makes me think, hello coffee. Which makes me think, I love coffee.

Hello colorful kitchen stuff. I think I need to brighten up some of our old stand-bys.

Hello December 10th. I can’t comprehend how quickly Christmas is coming.

Hello shopping. I need to do more. Finish up and get stuff wrapped!

Hello chilly nights. I love layering on the blankets–don’t you?

Hello Christmas party! We are celebrating with our LLD team tomorrow night.

Hello play date at the park with scooters and sunshine.

Hello cleaning up our staircase. I throw all our junk on the stairs with the intention of taking it up with me–but right now I’m stepping around the mess and it’s probably a safety hazard!

Hello Morro Bay. I’m gonna try to talk my husband into a dinner out this week. By the sea side.

Hello VW. If I could have any car, I would choose a restored VW bus outfitted for camping. How fun would that be?

Hello to taking time to breathe. I need to catch my breath a little.

Hello smelling good. I love happy smells. On the flip side, I don’t like yucky smells. This is probably not breaking news, but it’s Monday morning and I need more coffee.

Hello picture taking. I want to capture the every day this week.

Hello pretty little things. When I see my jewelry in a different environment it always makes me smile.

Hello Hands Gallery. You are so inspiring!

Hello to a brand new week. It’s gonna be a great one!

thanksgiving in pismo beach

November 26th | family, san luis obispo

Hey friends! It’s a brand new week. The boys have been out of school for the last 5 days and we put up our Christmas tree. It somehow feels like we should be on vacation–but it’s back to school and back to the workshop. It’s our busiest season of the year! Whoohoo! I’ve got pics to share from our Thanksgiving with friends and some hellos too.

Hello incredible view. Our friend has a house way up on the hill in Pismo Beach. Beautiful!

Hello turkey, stuffing, cranberry and sweet potatoes. The meal was delicious.

Hello sunset. Hello warmth. It’s been 80* here and it feels like summer. {Hello wishing for some sweater weather!}

Hello love. Hello feeling very thankful I have such a good man.

Hello busy busy workshop. Things are buzzing. And we are so grateful.

Hello Harry Potter. Matthias decided it was a Harry Potter marathon weekend. So we’ve had the movies going–which is fun and cozy.

Hello personality. Matthias decided to reserve his own seat at the table on Thanksgiving. We all got a big kick out of his note. That kid has confidence.

Hello grand piano. Hello happy David who played some sweet tunes for us when we ate turkey and relaxed.

Hello Kendall. This little dog stole our hearts and had us googling poodle-golden retriever mix later that night. We keep talking about getting a dog, but with our crazy lives we’re not sure if we have the time to devote. I really fell for Kendall though.

Hello shopping. Use code cybermonday and save 25% today only. THAT’S AWESOME!

scarecrows, cambria, ca

October 16th | san luis obispo

My Mother-in-law and I headed over to Cambria last week to get lunch and see the scarecrows. Every year the town works together to put out hundreds of creative scarecrows. it’s so much fun!

This crow doesn’t look very scary–I think he’s adorable!

A daddy scarecrow with his son on his shoulders outside the toy shop. So creative!

We’re Red Sox fans over here. In August, Steve’s great uncle Dutch Leonard was inducted into the Red Sox hall of fame–and Steve got to throw out the first pitch at a baseball game. How cool is that?

An older couple sitting on a bench. He looks so real!

A pumpkin genie floating outside the soap shop. Perfect, right!?

I think this couple may be from a british comedy show–not sure.

Harry Potter! Whohoo!

A pumpkin cat outside the Black Cat Restaurant.

I think the Wizard of Oz was my favorite. I thought the tin man was going to turn to me and say ‘hello’. He looked so life-like!

And last but not least, a group of cycling scarecrows. They were actually pedaling the bikes–so fun!

We’ll be in England this Halloween. Matthias is dressing up as a ‘snake eyes ninja’ and David will be spiderman. As long as there is candy, we’ll have a blast! What do you have planned?

hello monday {hello harmony}

October 15th | an everyday moment, san luis obispo

Yesterday we took a drive up the coast to stop at a winery and pick up a gift for family. We leave for England on Wednesday and we can’t wait! On our drive we stopped in Harmony. It’s a tiny town {population 18} just north of Cayucos and just south of Cambria. There is a pottery shop, candle shop, blown glass shop and wine tasting. It’s beautiful! I bet everyone gets along all the time in Harmony. You just can’t be grumpy or disagreeable in a town named Harmony! Now, how about some hellos?

Hello tiny town with pretty things

Hello warm fall days on the coast {we loved having a few rainy days last week!}

Hello washing clothes and packing for our trip.

Hello passports and getting activities for the airplane.

Hello to a happier David. He’s feeling better–not 100%, but better.

Hello to hoping he’s himself when we are on our trip.

Hello cleaning out the fridge and tidying up the house before we leave.

Hello figuring out cozy clothes to pack for rainy English days.

Hello to making memories with friends. We had some sweet time together over the weekend.

Hello sitting and talking for hours. I love that.

Hello work study for Matthias. He has to keep up with his schoolwork on our trip.

Hello to seeing new things and experiencing the world.

Hello to meeting new family members. We love you already, Phoebe!

Hello coffee cup. We ran out of coffee beans–emergency!

Hello quick stop at starbucks.

Hello Monday! It’s a fabulous, brand new week!

pumpkin patch love

October 11th | an everyday moment, san luis obispo

We made a trip to our favorite pumpkin patch! It’s one of my favorite things to do in the fall. Wanna see our visits in 2011 and 2010, oh my and 2007?! Ah, memories! I love traditions, don’t you? when I look back at these pics it makes me so nostalgic!

Our friends Max and Gracie joined us. All of the kiddos pulled wagons, ran around, picked pumpkins, changed their minds and had a blast! Off to eat some candy corn–want some?

boutique love: poppy, morro bay

September 20th | found here & there, jewelry, san luis obispo

One of my very favorite shops in Morro Bay is carrying our heartfelt line. Poppy has been a favorite boutique for years and years now. I got a great pair of jeans there, like, 7 years ago, and I was hooked! From cards, to jewelry, and pretty candles–it’s seriously an adorable and unique shop. Find a dress for yourself and the perfect gift for a friend.

Wil you please hop over and ‘like’ Poppy on Facebook? Because when one of your favorite shops starts carrying your jewelry–it’s a happy, happy day! And if you’re in Morro Bay, make sure to stop by. Thank you, Poppy. You rock.

exploring the tidepools {summer 2012}

July 27th | adventures, san luis obispo

When we went camping in San Simeon we headed out early one morning to explore the tide pools at low tide. I’m not big on getting moving early in the morning but on this particular day, it was totally worth it! We saw so many amazing creatures. The adults loved it just as much as the kiddos.

You can see last year’s visit to the tide pools here and our visit in 2009 here. Wow the kids are growing up! Sniff. I love doing the same thing year after year–that’s what memories are made of, right?

What is something you love to do year after year?
