trailer tour

May 12th | adventures, san luis obispo

at the ruby rose show a couple weeks ago, stephanie brought a couple of her family’s airstream trailers. they buy them and give them new life and make them beautiful!

as much as i want a trailer, i know i’m not really a camping kind of girl. i made reservations at a campground last summer to MAKE myself camp with the kids, and we still didn’t go.

but maybe with a trailer it would be easier? in a trailer like this one we could cuddle and read and eat homemade cookies.

the kids could play by the ocean all day and sleep soundly at night.

and then sun would stream in to wake us and i’d walk to a nearby cafe for pancakes.

making memories in a trailer like this would be so charming!

and we wouldn’t need a clock. we’d just play all day!

does your family camp in tents or a trailer?

let’s hang out!

April 28th | blog friends, decorating, san luis obispo

i’ve got friends coming to stay this weekend–so excited!

we are planning to swing by the always inspiring stitch market, then on saturday we’ll be over at remnants of the past in nipomo and sunday i’m bringing jewelry and goodies to my absolutely favorite shop ruby rose here in san luis obispo. so exciting! please come hang out–especially at ruby rose. i’ll be there from 12-2pm {and there will be cupcakes i hear!}

right now i’m on the hunt for a bench and some vintage wall art for the boys bathroom. also, i’d love to find a couple more medium sized globes for our living room. are you on the hunt for any special items?

perfumo canyon road

April 14th | adventures, family, san luis obispo

perfumo canyon road is just a few miles from our home. it’s a side road that goes all the way to the top of the hill overlooking san luis obispo.

steve rode his bike up the hill earlier in the day and it was such a beautiful day that he wanted to drive us all up so we could see the view.

i’m so glad he took us up that wind-y road. it was gorgeous!

the sky was blue and we could see all of san luis obispo and all the way over to morro bay!

the grass was green and the cows were curious.

and of course the boys were silly.

such a simple family activity. and free. and then we followed it up with frozen yogurt.

and my family let me take some pictures–i love being able to capture those little moments.

what’s your favorite free {or inexpensive} activity?

taco temple, morro bay

April 4th | family, san luis obispo

my absolute favorite mexican food place around here is taco temple. somehow on friday i got to chose where we went out to eat. and of course, i chose taco temple.

it’s right off highway one in morro bay and it’s definitely a local fave.

super casual, kid-friendly, near the beach, mango salsa–what’s not to love?

and it was a gorgeous sunset too.

make sure to save room for their homemade dessert. heaven.

after dinner everyone was happy {i might be implying that some of us were a little grumpy before dinner!} so i snapped a few pics of the four of us. i love these silly pics and how they show each personality. so thankful for crazy, little family!

what’s your favorite hangout spot?

my fave thrift store

March 5th | DIY, san luis obispo

my fave thrift store {hospice partners} is doing a super creative fundraiser right now. they had various artists create one-of-a-kind birdhouses. each birdhouse is topped with an old book. each artist used their own creativity and various materials to make a themed birdhouse that is sweet and unique.

so fun, right? if you’re local–go check the hospice partners thrift store at 445 higuera street, san luis obispo.

it’s the weekend. big sigh. we’ve got a birthday party today and sunshine. so maybe a trip to the beach or dinner out? what does your weekend have in store for you?

hip hip hooray

January 21st | family, san luis obispo

the weather has been insanely warm and beautiful. last weekend was about 70* {in january?!}

so the boys and i hit the beach in cambria. what a gorgeous day. i could hardly take it in!

the boys ran around and played and chased the waves (or the waves chased them!) and then we went into town and got ice cream.

david was crazy–running straight for the water while i was busy shooting pics and then i had to chase him down before a wave clobbered him. so fun to see him playing and growing!

it was just a magical day. i loved it.

hip hip hooray for friday! david’s cardio appt went really well yesterday. today we see the pulmonologist. and we’re making a little time to play, too!

what do you have planned for this weekend?

my favorite thrift store

January 6th | decorating, san luis obispo

oh how i love the treasure chest {hospice partners} thrift shop on higuera in san luis obispo. they know me by name. they actually called me a couple weeks ago to come look at a table because they knew i would love it. how amazing is that??

this day, i came away with the cream wool coat, my sister came away with two vintage quilts, my mom found a huge frame. i love a good buy!

right now i’m on the hunt for a vintage upholstered chair in lime green or aqua for our bedroom. i’m patient. it will find me some day! how about you? what are you hunting for right now?

contentment

January 1st | san luis obispo, thoughts

last week {with family in town} we visited hearst castle. it was one of the homes mr. hearst owned. its located up on a hill overlooking the ocean in san simeon.

i’ve done the regular tour 2 or 3 times, but in december they offer a special evening tour. they take you to lesser seen parts of the castle and there are docents dressed in 1920′s costumes. it was magical to see the castle at night.

when i started scrolling through all my pictures, i couldn’t help but notice all they glowing lamps i captured. so pretty. the home is filled with valuable antiques and works of art. most of the ceilings we saw are 500 years old and imported from spain. the detail is breath-taking.

hearst came from a wealthy family {they made their money in silver mining} and hearst is best known for his publications {which still include cosmopolitan and good housekeeping}. after walking through room after room filled with treasures and art i started reflecting on contentment.

was hearst content with all he had? i doubt it. am i content with what i have been given? i want to be. i want to be grateful and enjoy the beauty in my life without spending my time and energy wishing for more. things don’t bring happiness {at least not long term}. whether we have little or much, contentment can be hard to find.

how do you find contentment?

seagulls {+silliness}

December 29th | family, photography, san luis obispo

we played in morro bay yesterday. that’s a lot of rhyming.

it was coooold! someone was feeding the seagulls and they were going crazy!

and the cousins were crazy too! so silly.

they were chasing seagulls, climbing rocks and having a blast.

my dad got a sigma 18-200 lens for christmas.

and he’s having a great time figuring it out.

so many birds, so close!

i love seeing the cousins together. such sweet memories being made!

and last a heart-shaped puddle that my sis-in-law showed me.

i love almost anything heart shaped! so fun!

it’s almost time to take down the tree and decorations. when the decorations come down the house feels more open. i always like to have a few fresh new things to put out in the new year. any ideas for refreshing your home after christmas? i’d love to hear!
