more on camping.

we had so much fun camping. and i still have a ton of pictures to share {there will probably be two more posts after this–so brace yourself!}  i thought it would be fun to share some pics from around the campsite.

we camped in santa margarita which gets pretty warm during the summer {it was high 90’s when we were there} but the evenings are cool and beautiful. so our mornings and evenings were spent at the campsite and mid-day we took off for a nearby beach. it worked out perfectly.

the landscape around the campsite was very rural. so lovely.

oh my goodness. the kids were all crazy about otter pops. matthias discovered them on this trip and he couldn’t stop talking about them all. the. time. they are a great treat for a hot day.

david was on the move constantly. which meant either steve or i was chasing him all weekend. but the good thing was i had nothing else to worry about, so it was still pretty relaxing. that little cutie on the right is our friends’ son cooper. i’m in love.

the campsite had a huge air pillow kind of like a trampoline. so fun!

a pretty pinecone.

the evening stars were visible through the top of the tent {david and i slept in the trailer and matthias and steve slept in a tent}. it was a great trip–we’ll definitely plan another soon. mostly i loved being some pretty incredible friends {and the food was amazing too!}

mashmallows, bbq hot dogs, taco stack-up, fresh fruit–what’s your favorite camp food?

  1. Hi Lisa,

    Great photos, cannot wait to see the rest!

    My girlfriend and I are leaving our hubbies at home and heading out for a girls camp out next weekend, so excited! Looking forward to riding bikes, swimming, fishing and just acting like kids again! We are planning to make chili, omelets & peach cobbler in a dutch oven, fire roasted hot dogs of course and different kinds of chicken.

    Have a wonderful week 🙂

  2. Hi there, my fav camping food has to be toasted marshmallows over a campfire! I haven’t been camping for a very long time and I’m not really a tent girl – I love caravans (or campers as I think you call them), they are so cosy! It’s funny I think the last time I camped was down by OUR POND in our tent. We live on 5 acres and we woke to the sound of our ducks (all 40 or so of them, domestic pekins, khaki campbells and some NZ natives) quacking madly! Smiles..

  3. We are camping in a popup camper this summer at Mt. Rushmore! Can’t wait! So you liked the camper? I would love a little vintage camper…and park it by a lake all summer. that would be lovely.

    1. we loved the camper! we borrowed it from a friend and it was cozy and comfortable. if we were to buy our own, i think we might buy something a little newer just for easier mantainence. have fun camping!!

  4. Oh my, your camper is adorable! Two of our faves are hobo dinners (hamburger, tatoes, carrots, onions, season salt and a blob of butter wrapped in tinfoil) and puppy chow/muddy buddies. In fact, I’m going to make a batch right now to take to the camper tonight!

  5. I love roasted hot dogs, but my favorite is popcorn popped over the fire and then melt lots of butter to pour over it…yum yum! You just gotta indulge in the (taste good bad for you) stuff sometimes!

    1. All this talk about camping gave me an idea for a super cute necklace. :o) How about a charm with a camp fire and a nifty little saying. Then you can add additional charms with you different family member names. Kinda like the family gathering around the campfire!

  6. S’mores! We leave for my brother-in-law and sister-in-law’s cottage tomorrow. Can’t wait! S’mores every night by the campfire under the stars.

  7. I guess I’d have to BE a camper to have a favorite camping food, no?!

    Here’s the thing: I want to BE a camper. Well, truthfully, I want to be a GLAMper. 😉 I want the cute trailer and the warm summer nights. I want the smores and hot dogs. What I don’t want is dirt & fish that was caught and beheaded 😉

  8. Purchase medium sized bags of Fritos and your favorite canned chili. Heat the chili, rip off the top of the bag of Fritos and ladle in as much chili as you like. Eat it right out of the bag, no fuss, no mess!

    BROWN BEARS IN THE FOREST
    Place one box of gingerbread mix in a large Ziploc bag along with one cup of applesauce. Hand it to one of the kids to “squish” it all together. Pour into a saucepan lined with aluminum foil, place the lid on top and place over the hot coals after the main course is done on the BBQ. Let it bake for 30-40 minutes. Scoop into a bowl with a dollop of whipped cream on top. Serve hot.

  9. i love grilled chicken or a yummy s’more (with a reeses peanut butter cup, though!)

    we were camping a few days ago. i can only take 2 nights in a tent, then i’m ready to sleep in a house again ;]

  10. we’ve never camped there…but will definitely have to put it on our “stay-cation” camping list. isn’t it a blast? recently i’ve had a newfound love for s’mores, but i also love just about anything made in a dutch oven over the campfire! {dessert items are my favorite….of course!}

  11. what’s a taco stack up? sounds super fun!! i haven’t heard about otter pops in YEARS! i used to eat those as a kid : ) i’m a ‘smores fan, but use a peanut butter cup instead of chocolate bar.. yummers!

  12. S’mores are definitely a favorite!! Does it count as your favorite camping food when you have never actually went camping in the wilderness?!?! 🙂 Now, my husband who loves to camp loves cooking good ol’ baked beans on the camp fire.

    Love the pics…wish I could jump on that trampoline!! 🙂

  13. Love the pics, keep them comin! 🙂
    One of our fav’s for camping food is actually a treat we call a pordgie pie. Two slices of bread(cinn is our pick), some apple pie filling and cream cheese spread on the bread. Put in the pordgie pie irons and put over the fire for a few mins… so good!!

    Hope you find time to go again. 🙂
