our summer list {finally}

we’ve been talking about our summer list and i’ve been making notes on my phone, but yesterday we made it ‘offical’ on the huge chalkboard in our loft upstairs.

having it written down feel so concrete–and it’s so motivating. we need to get busy having fun!

today we even completed the first thing to cross off–so we’re off to a good start!

the paper chain is for matthias to work on his math this summer. each time he does a math page he can tear a link off the chain. when all the links are gone, he gets a special superhero toy he’s been wanting. today he completed two math pages and he liked it! what?!

hooray for summer! now if the weather will just warm up…

we’ve got friends visiting, a BBQ and father’s day celebration this weekend. what are your weekend plans?

  6. I am a third grade teacher and I LOVE the paper chain idea. It gives them something to work toward. Instead of adding to fill something, you are taking away…so rewarding!

  7. I too love the idea of the paper chain. How many links are on there and what kind of reward is Matty looking forward to? Last year, I took the kids to our local bulk food store and let them pick out some candy that they would get to eat when they did a workbook page. It motivated one DS, but not the other one so much.

  8. Looks like a fun summer list! I love the idea of a paper chain to help motivate kiddos to do something that they might not be so thrilled about doing initially.

  9. Love the chalkboard! What a fabulous idea. It sounds like you and your family have an adventous summer planned!

  10. We have our summer list ready, but I haven’t posted it yet. I love this time of year. The paper chain idea for math is genius! We’re doing math sheets this summer with the youngest. Some incentive like this will make it much more fun. Thanks for the idea.

  11. i saw one of those giant chalkboards at value village a couple of months back and didn’t get it…i’m still bitter about it. and strangely, i feel like you already knew this?

  12. Hi Lisa honey, I really love that blackboard (or greenboard, giggle). I’ve always loved blackboards for some reason and am thinking when I eventually!!! paint the walls of my studio I will have a blackboard paint section on it to scribble on. My studio is only 9.5m square, hmm that’s around 30ft square I think so not a lot of wall space by the time you take my cupboards and shelving into account.
It’s a wet winter weekend here so am spending time creating in my studio. My fav thing to do! xxx

  13. i just got my summer list done yesterday too (posted it).

tonight we’re watching nacho libre, having nachos and corn-on-the-cob for dinner!

we might need a paper chain attached to our list to count the days till camp for all 3 kids (first time) and MAUI for us!!!

  14. Love that chalkboard! You should see my living room right now. Usually we make a paper chain to count down the days left of school. We forgot to do that this year but my girls have been making paper chains like crazy:)
And I love that youre already getting to cross things off the list:)
    xo

  15. The kids are spending the day with their Grandparents, I’m organizing like a wild woman and getting ready for a softball game later….after we drop off a car load of stuff at the Goodwill 🙂

Church tomorrow, waiting on DH to tell me exactly what he wants me to cook for him for Father’s day 🙂
