  1. a little hint from Semi-Homemade on Food Network – take the frosting out of the can – add a bit of vanilla and it makes it taste more homemade! takes the plastic taste out of the frosting – wonder if someone else mentioned this? anyway –

  2. I do this with pasta sauce. Saute some onions and garlic, add a can of pasta sauce and simmer for about 15 min. Not only does the sauce taste better — the whole house smells like some serious cooking.

  3. Buy one roll of refrigerated peanut butter cookie dough….slice in 9 pieces. Cut each piece into 4 additional pieces. Unwrap 36 minature Reeses peanut butter cups. Spray small muffin tins with non-stick spray. Put one piece of cookie dough in each hole of the muffin tin. Bake at 350 for 8-9 minutes. Immediately push a peanut butter cup in the middle of the baked cookie. Let cool and remove from tins.

    Great for a bake sale!!!!

  4. I love this idea!
    I have two quick treats.
    1. Box brownie mix with chopped up baby ruth on the top. THEN…chocolate frosting to top it off. HEAVENLY and I get complements every time I take them somewhere.
    2. Pinapple Cherry upside down cake. Bottom of a class cake pan pour in cherries and pinapple. Top with yellow cake mix and bake as the box directs. Just before it is finished take chunks of butter (use a whole stick of butter/margarine) and put them on top. It will melt into the cake giving and extra boost of flavor!

  5. your cookies look so tasty! i saw some chocolate dipped heart shaped shortbread cookies at costco today and was sure i could copy those too!
you are too cute! love your blog.

  6. I could taste the frosting just reading this! V&co. sent me over to say Hi and to tell you how gorgeous you are!

  7. 4 Mars Bars (regular size)
    1/2 cup of butter/margerine
    3 cups Rice Krispies.

Melt chocolate bars and butter in microwave for 2 minutes.
    Mix thoroughly.
Pour Rice Krispies into the mixture.
    Mix thoroughly.

While trying hard to refrain from just eating it all with a spoon, press into pan, cool in fridge, cut into squares, and voila! Our kids love that they can make this on their own.

Especially wonderful for those mornings when the kids announce that they were supposed to bring a treat to school… just as the bus is coming up over the hill. Ya know, *those* mornings πŸ˜€

  8. Whenever I bring treats for the kiddos at Storytime…I give them a Rice Krispie treat, some frosting and a few sprinkles.. (colors that go with whatever holiday we’re celebrating of course :)) and let them each”decorate ” their own treat. They love it(!and I don’t end up with too many leftovers.)

  9. I use this same trick with Rice Crispy treats. For a bake sale, I bought I large box from Costco. Dipped half of the bars in white chocolate and colored sprinkles then stuck a popsicle stick in the bottom and added a bow. SO cute and So easy. You can even “theme” your colored sprinkles and bows for different holidays or school colors. πŸ™‚

  10. Those same cookies you just bought and coolwhip sweetened w/ powdered sugar can make an awesome roll cake. Stand the cookies up and put the coolwhip in between each cookie and make a roll (like a roll of quarters) until you get the width of the cake you want. Then make addition rolls to make the length. Ice the entire roll, shave some chocolate over it, and refridgerate for 24 hrs. The cookies get soft and you can slice it like a cake. It’s delicious!

  11. packaged cookie dough mix – add your own “mix-in’s” – the peanut butter mixes tastes as good as home made; just add choc chips and nuts…yuuum. Still counts as home made if you made ’em in your home…

  12. Yum Lisa! Those look so good and so cute! My go-to easy dessert is store-bought angel food cake with frozein strawberries in syrup and cool whip. Easy, fast, and kinda good for you to boot!

  13. Oh I love this post! I’ve been helping out all day for my kids school bake sale and these not only look great but will sell quickly! Thanks for sharing!

  14. what an awesome easy dessert. thanks for sharing – I can totally see taking this to a bake sale at school.

  15. Fun!

I learned this from a cookbook from the 60’s…

mix up a package of chocolate pudding with milk (as instructed; not one of the cook on the stove pudding mixes; or I don’t use that kind anyway for this!)

add a chocolate cake mix and chocolate chips

bake as instructed on the cake mix (using the pudding to replace the oil and eggs that the mix calls for).

super chocolaty, quick and yummy! Let me know if you try it sometime!

  16. Lemon curd, hands down. Preferably eaten cold, standing up, reading cook books in the kitchen.

Also, in homage to my mother, Cool Whip. I didn’t taste real whipped cream until I was about 7 or 8. Cool Whip was my mother’s dessert mecca.
