self portraits and getting to know me.

me-collage.jpg
i think it’s funny to post pictures of myself, but i love seeing other’s self-portraits on their blogs. this photo resulted from a self portrait session a couple days ago which was seriously hilarious. thankfully i was home alone, so no one was here to witness my humiliation (or the massive amounts of photos i deleted from the camera!).

i napped today, which was a big treat, but now i am wide awake when i should be sleepy. i’ll pay for it tomorrow!

i thought it would be fun to do a post answering questions about myself. i haven’t done one in a while. the two most common questions i am asked are 1) what kind of camera/editing software do you use and 2) what products do you use in your hair. I’ll be sure to cover those two, but if you are wondering about anything else, leave a comment.

  1. Love the self-portrait… I have been trying some lately as well, and thank goodness for digital… delete away… 🙂

  2. Love your new site — I’m a big fan of big photos! I have to say — you are a very brave soul — to do a photo shoot of yourself. I’ve been wanting to do that, oh gosh I can only imagine some of the shots I will delete. I think I would certianly need the house to myself!

  3. Hi Lisa

I check your website daily as it gives me inspiration and encouragement as a mama of an active 14 month old son. I bought my first TWO necklaces several weeks ago and I wear them nearly every day as they have such sentimental value to me (I have my son’s and husband’s initials on the necklace)!! My question is…Do you have a favorite story from a customer about why they purchased a specific piece of jewelry from your collection? Especially since we are given the opportunity to personalize the jewelry, I was just curious if there was a customer or story that just stood out.

  4. One thing that I love about your blog is that it is another way to keep me connected to California. Your great stories and pictures give me that California feeling. Would you ever consider moving out of Cali?

  5. I, too, was wondering if you see any more kids in your future! Perhaps a little girl to help you model all those gorgeous creations of yours. 🙂 Btw, i know it can be super annoying when people ask about having more kids, so i apologize in advance if you’re sick of the question!

  6. HAHAHA on the ‘how did you get to be so cool?’ question…I remember that from a while ago. Very funny stuff, but I’m sure there’s a whole other crop of readers that really need to know how one does get there. 🙂

How IS David doing, and Matty too…how does MAtty deal with all this?

  7. How do you feel about hiking in Yosemite? 🙂 Lisa, that is a story in itself – it may be worthy of posting 🙂

  8. Lisa,

First of all, I love your blog, your photography, and your jewelry.

I’m a curly hair girl too. Just so you know, you have saved me a ton of money in hair products. I switched to the hair mousse you suggested and love it (I won’t give details so you can answer the question again).

My question is personal, so feel free not to answer. Based on some of your posts, you seem to always find some “alone time” with your husband (date night, for example). Any advice for those of us trying to balance a career (I work part-time), children, housework, husband, etc…

    Thank you! You’re inspiring.

  9. I have several of your necklaces so you know I just love your jewelry but its your sweet boys that bring me back…..I would love to hear how David is doing with school and how Matty has changed as a brother as he has gotten older.

  10. hi lisa!
i’ve lurked for a while and just wanted to say that you have such a beautiful family and i love your jewerly & photography. you and your blog are very inspiring.
my question for you is this- did you take any classes in making jewelry or are you self taught? also, what do you use to oxidize your silver and polish to give it that finish? it looks to have that perfect matte look that i’ve always tried to achieve, but have never perfected! 🙂

  11. hi lisa!
i’ve lurked for a little while and its time to come clean! ;o) i absolutely LOVE your photography. especially since i am such a wanna be. but the colors and choices you use are so very beautiful…as well as this family of yours!

    so, nice to meet you!
and i am VERY impressed by your self-portrait. if i tried it would be big nostrils, crazy looking hair and crossed eyeballs!

  12. the pictures are gorgeous!

i’d like like to ask if there were any specific setbacks or roadblocks with your jewelry business before it got big? and, if so, how did you overcome those obstacles?

  13. Im not sure if this is about you .. but I once saw a blog post of photos taken at a carnival type party. Wasnt that you? Is that post hidden in the archives? Im looking for ideas and thought Id seen it here!

Id like to ask where you grew up? Where do you live now? Why did you move away if you did.

  14. Hi Lisa, I’m an advid reader as well. I love hearing about your family and love seeing your new designs. My question is very personal as well…. do you see anything “pink” in your future? hahaha! Those neices of yours are so beautiful, ever wonder what a little girl of yours & your husbands would look like?

  15. Your self portrait is beautiful! 🙂

My question… What have you learned about yourself and how have you grown as a person having a special needs child?

And… what are some of your favorite movies?

  16. HaHa Chrissie, I was a bit bothered by the person who asked which sister was Lisa’s favorite……until I noticed it was from YOU. Very Funny.

  17. Big lurker over here!!! Love your pics and your words…You have such great style, where do you like to shop for clothes?

  18. My question is personal, and if you don’t want to share your thoughts, I totally understand! Balancing a family with small children, one of which has special needs and you jewelry business is tough! Do you plan on having anymore children? For me, my family life and my bag business is all consuming. We decided after our second child was born that we had our hands full.

  19. Hmmm….questions…

    1. How many hours per day do you work on your jewelry? or does it depend on orders, etc.?

    2. How did you meet your husband? How did he propose? (you can choose not to answer if this is too personal, I just love hearing other people’s love stories!)

  20. Longtime lurker here, Hi! Yes! I’ve definitely wondered what you use to edit and whether or not you put your images through a filter.

Love your blog and your jewelry!

  21. Hello Lisa,

I love your picture. I have tried to make self portraits but was never satisfied with the result. (dont like to look in the miror!) My question for you. You are working at home. How do you arrange with your kids, when i want to do something crafty the girls always sit on my lap! and want to help. And when they are in school i have to do the common thing around the house you know, like cleaning, washing ironing…..
Do you have a special room for your work?

Hope you get some sleep, for me the day just started.

    Liefs Heidi
