  1. Hi there,

I love your ornament…I am at a different stage in life…the youngest of our 3 boys has left the nest and it is back where we started…I have an ornament from our first Christmas together 1979…and I think it would be fitting to have one to celebrate this year…the kids will be home for Christmas..but they are launched in their lives now..

Enjoy those babies they will be gone before you know it.

  2. I love these ornaments. I love the November design too! Also, I just love looking at your blog. It makes me happy. I don’t know why, it just does.

My mother’s tree still displays the ornaments of my youth, years ago. I can stare at it for hours and hours.

  3. I have many, many meaningful ornaments. My grandparents gave me one every year when I was a kid. I have many wonderful ornaments that were gifts from the year my husband and I were married. I have a beautiful ornament from an amazing trip that my husband and I took to San Fran. And I could go on. Your ornament is beautiful!

  4. That is such a quaint little leaf!

My boys are quite young (4 and 1) but I started getting those personalized/engraved photo ornaments for them starting with their 1st Christmas. I tuck a picture in it from the Christmas season and am almost overcome with emotion each year when I look at how much they’ve changed since the year before. Big differences exist between a one year old and a nearly 2 year old. The gummy smiles, the few pearly teeth. The 4 year old loves looking in “his” ornament box, and I love telling him stories about those earlier days with him. I’m happy to give them a photo-style documentary of their Christmases past.

Do you do photo-style engraved ornaments? πŸ˜‰

  5. I have a glass mushroom ornament that was my grandmothers, my dad wrapped it up for me the Christmas after she passed away. It’s hilarious, but it warms my heart to add it to my tree every year!

  6. I buy both of my girls a special ornament each year.Usually something that has to do with them, a ballerina, a soccer ball etc. When they one day move out I will give them their box of ornaments to use on their own tree. My mom did the same thing for me, so I am happy to pass this on to my girls. I treasure the ornaments my mother gave me knowing she put her heart into finding the perfect cheerleader, or field hockey player, or the shopping bag representing my love for shopping! I think I may have to head over and grab an ornament or 2 from your site.

  7. I see we are not the only ones who buy each of our children a special ornament every year. We have 5, and the oldest is 18, so we have a lot of ornaments on our tree. I love your leaf ornament, fall is my favorite time of the year so I think I just might have to have it hanging somewhere all year long!

  8. I have an ornament that my Great Grandparents brought over from Germany when they came to America in 1900. The ornament is over 100 years old. I have been keeping it in a special “protective” case instead of on the tree. I have three young boys and did not want to take any chances! It is cool to think the ornament made the journey to America with them that many years ago.

  9. What a great idea! We let our daughter pick out one special ornament each year but other than that we don’t do anything special. I always buy the ones with spaces for a picture and the date but then I never put a picture in it. This is much better!

  10. My hubby and I started a tradition when we got together of buying a Christmas ornament whenever we travelled anywhere. We often do this even if it is just a fun local day trip. Something to remember our adventures by when we put up the tree every year. Since our daughter was born, we always buy a 2nd of this travel ornament – I then write a little something about what we did and when and tuck it in the ornament. This 2nd set will belong to her when she grows up & moves out. We also buy an ornament each year to celebrate that year. Like “baby’s 1st x-mas” or a Pooh Bear one for the year she was so crazy for Pooh… likewise, one for our tree & one for her collection.

  11. My favorite ornament came to us in December of 2005. We were in China adopting our little, Kate. She had never seen Christmas trees before, so when she saw one at our hotel, she loved the ornaments. One tree was full of small 2 inch cardboard boxes wrapped with shiny paper and tied with gold string. Kate loved looking at the ornaments, so one of the hotel staff gave her one of those little gift boxes.

I treasure that little cardboard box and am flooded with warm emotion each time I hang it on our tree.

  12. The first year my husband and I were married I cried when we put up our Christmas tree. It really looked like the Charlie brown tree…so sad. My husband and I went to our local department store and purchased two ornaments. We have since done this and now our beautiful boy does it with us. Each year we each pick out an ornament and hang it on our tree. I always choose ornaments that match the house..my husband picks whatever he wants and my son picks out things usually that he is into at the time. I always write down the story of why my son picked the one he picked. I put in it the box that has the date written on the outside of the box. When he gets married I hope his wife will appreciate this tradition and her first tree will make her heart happy.

  13. Beautiful Lisa! I have two special ornaments. The first ornament is a white satin ball with a picture of me and my brother kissing. I was 3 and he was 5. The second ornament is a drummer boy I made in kindergarten from an orange juice can and a strofoam ball as the head. Not very pretty but certainly would not be Christmas if those ornaments were not on my tree. Now I get to put my daughter’s handmade ornaments on our tree!

    Take care!

  14. Love your ornament. I used to have construction paper hearts that I made and put a picture of the girls in every year…each had their own string of hearts for years. I forget when I stopped; mainly because I had no place to put anything and I wasn’t taking pictures like I used to…actually kind of sad. But that was something special and fun. My daughter bought me a Tigger ornament for years when she worked at Hallmark – and actually, I still look for those. And the girls always found a special ornament for themselves each year, too, or Liz found something special for each of us.

  15. I love the leaf ornament!
We buy at least one new ornament each year, and we try to make it symbolic of something that happened that year. (We will soon be buying our fourth “Baby’s First Christmas” ornament, but previous ornaments have featured more mundane topics such as soccer, Spongebob and Star Wars!) Every year we enjoy finding all the previous years’ ornaments, and reminiscing over cups of hot chocolate.

  16. That ornament is beautiful! I have a collection of ornaments that I always hang that were given to me over the course of a few years by my Godmother. They’re some of my most cherished holiday decorations πŸ™‚

  17. I still have my baby first Christmas ornaments. One of them is a baby in a carriage. The wheels look like they are about to fall off. Last year, was our first Christmas and this year will be our daughter’s first Christmas. We picked up an ornament for her at Disneyland and I’m very excited about starting many traditions with her.

  18. My mom gave me an ornament every Christmas since I was born. Plus, we get one from each place we visit so most all of ours are special.

Your ornament is very pretty! What a great gift idea!

  19. oh, lisa! those are beautiful! i have tons of ornaments! every year during thanksgiving dinner, my mom gave us each an ornament. by the time i moved out, i had enough to decorate a tree and then some.

  20. I buy an ornament every time we travel someplace… Its a great reminder of our family vacations. When my parents travel, they usually bring back an ornament as well for our tree. I love it that almost every ornament on our tree has a story, needless to say it takes us FOREVER to decorate πŸ™‚

  21. My sister and her husband handmade each other ornaments each year, well up until they had kids. It always had something to do with the previous year and some were really funny, like a pot pie because they ate a lot of it that year. I always buy ornaments that represent what we did that year, our vacations or sports or whatever we are into at the moment.

  22. How pretty!
I always get each of us an ornament every year. I let the kids pick theirs out and they can’t wait to put them on the tree. Some of my favorites though are the ones my Mom has gotten for us over the years. They are little carved scenes out of wood with our names on them.

  23. I have these wonderful clay ornaments that my mom made when I was 6 years old and we lived in Japan. Little snowman, drummer boy, cowgirl (me) and baby with a teddy bear. I was so very happy when she passed them on to me when I got married. I cherish them!

  24. My mom gave me a new ornement each Christmas and I still have all of them. They bring back great memories. My husband and I try to find ornements everytime we go on a trip. Better souvenir than a t-shirt!

  25. that is so so pretty!
my most favorite ornament is one that has a picture of me at my first christmas. i was just over a month old when the picture was taken, and it’s just so sweet-looking.

  26. love the ornament.
My husband is a pilot (by hobby) so each year since we’ve been together, I’ve gotten him the new Hallmark plane..we’ve got 5 of them now. It’s a fun tradition.

  27. My mom gave me an ornament every year so that when I moved out, I would have enough for my own tree. Also, I buy ornaments as my souveniers when traveling to avoid clutter. My favorite is a handmade glass nativity from Italy.

  28. All of my Christmas ornaments are special to me. Every year since I have been born my Gram and Pap and my parents each get me a new ornament. I have two from each year, and I am now 28. Every year, I can’t wait to take out my ornaments, and look at each of them, then have the special memories each of them brings back. It is also nice because I have a 1 year old, and she has started getting 3 Christmas ornaments a year (yes, already!!!). We also have a spun glass angel with a banner of the year we were married. I love how my spun glass ornaments sparkle with the different colored lights on our Christmas tree. We always put our tree up the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and it’s still magical even as an adult!!

This one will also be added to our Christmas tree this year. It encompasses 3 things I love 1) my family 2) it’s a leaf, and I LOVE fall (it’s my favorite season) 3) it’s an ornament, and I love hanging ornaments on my tree!!

  29. My husband’s parents have made ornaments for each of their kids(6) and spouses as well as their 16 grandchildren. We get one every year. My father in law cuts them out (They are made of wood) and my mother in law paints them. They are beautiful. My husband has one for every year of his life and my girls do too. We get to open our new ones at Christmas. This past August my mother-in-law passed away from cancer. It’s been very hard for the whole family. This Christmas will hard without her. While going through her things her daughters came across ornaments that she has made for the grandkids that go up to 2012. So for a few more years we will be receiving ornaments. It makes me cry when I think about it. What a wonderful mother-in-law she was and such an amazing grandmother. It will be very hard but very special to unwrap the ornaments this year.

  30. I love that!

I buy Christmas ornaments every year for our three children. The oldest, at 19, has enough to decorate her own tree when she starts her own home.

I also make handprints of each of the kids every year. (Trace, cut out, laminate.) I used to hang them on the tree until they took over, then on a garland above the fireplace. Now I have to find somewhere else to display them. (I stopped making them at 16 for the older two.) Any ideas?

  31. I’m with you…let’s put up the Christmas tree. My favorite ornaments are handmade ornaments from my late grandma. She made at least a dozen every year for our family.

  32. I love this!

I have an ornament from our honeymoon in St. Lucia that is so pretty and I love putting it on our tree every year.

  33. I have a porcelein doll ornament my mother gave me for Christmas when I was 8. It is my favorite, it brings back such memories for me. I hang it on our tree every year. I want to get my children each a special ornament that they will cherish as much as I do mine. By the way, I LOVE your ornament, it is beautiful. I want one!

  34. Beautiful ornament!
I buy each of the kids an ornament each year- like a truck for the three year old boy and a bunny for my 9 month old. I write their name and year on it. Then at Christmas they have their own box of ornaments to put up and when they’re all grown the box will be theirs for the keeping.
